GM planning to use the design of the new 2010 Saab 9-5
There are speculations that the 2010 Saab 9-5 might just live on, despite Saab currently being wound down by parent General Motors Co. With millions of dollars in design and R&D work put into the new car, it would have been a terrible waste to see the project go down the drain.

Swedish news source DN said that it’s possible that the new 9-5 will be released as a Buick. The new 9-5 was unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt auto show last September. The current 9-5 had just a decade under its belt and a complete overhaul had become necessary. For the 9-5 to enter the Buick lineup, it would have to be completely reskinned though since the new line of Buick offerings, with their distinctive corporate grilles and slanted headlights are quite different from that of the new 9-5.

Why not make it the new STS?

STS badging will be affixed to some future aggressively angular Cadillac-crested saloon.

I will tell you what this 9-5 is the hottest 9-5 they have ever designed and that i see the new 9-5 i dont see it as any other car other than the new 9-5. thats probaly going to worst than the years they did the saab 9-7trailblazer what a nightmare.

Gm is trying to hard to go overboard with a european look now. now they get the idea that we dont like the cars that came straight from GM factory to an AVIS rental lot

Good lookin' car. I like the look of the roof, thick C-pillar, and blacked out A-pillar although it would've been nicer if the front of the roof slanted forward a bit.

It's amazing how much in line the 9-5 is with its concept brothers. The design is timeless like an Audi yet unique and very elegant with a nice Volvo feel to it. This would be one of the few SAABs that actually looks like an offspring from the jets. One thing is that they might have made the LED strip in the front headlights a bit too subtle.

Great design with a purity of line that's Audi-like in execution, but uniquely SAAB in design language. Shame this car won't see life as a SAAB, as I'd prefer to see the sheetmetal remain unmolested.

purity of line??? really is that what they are calling bland cars that look the same generation after generation now adays...., this saab and audis are not in the same class of car this 9-5 actually looks unique, and not because of some gimmick grill. THe 9-5 more tha nlikely will not be a buick it just looks way to much like a Saab not to mention technically this car and the lacrosse are the same size, and on the same platform why would GM put both cars in the same lineup

Interesting critique coming from a "bmwdrvr".

Hopefully it will never make it to the street, it is so ugly.

Saabs are an aquired taste like Guiness beer they ALWAYS had an awkward design and they always had a hatchback theme on thier cars. so for you to say they are ugly doesnt mean they dont sell i think they are good looking cars

they dont sell.....hmm what was your point?

they actually do sell its just not your cup of tea and for them to be in buisness for over 30 years they had to be selling something

your right they sell so well, GM is shutting the company down. For how many of those 30 years were they in the red versus in the black????? They have been a failure as a commercial success. Personally I like Saabs especially the old viggen 3 door, and 9000aero models but my point is that they dont sell well. Making cars for a small group of fans just doesnt work, and GM completely ruined the brand with the 97, 92, their demise has been forthcoming for some time now it was obvious, the best thing they had recently was the 9-3....

It appears "bmwdrvr" prefers cars designed to appeal to a lower common denominator. By the way, "bmwdrvr", your declaration that "Making cars for a small group of fans just doesnt work" is absurd. It works for every AMG model MB makes, every BMW M model, Aston Martin, Bugatti, Lamborghini, etc. What it doesn't work for, or entry-level premium cars that can't get away with charging a premium and don't share the same savings that come with volume sales. It's for this reason that GM purchased SAAB with the aim of sharing platforms and parts to reduce costs.
