Is An SL 65 Black In Matte Livery Getting Your Approval?

Is An SL 65 Black In Matte Livery Getting Your Approval?
Anyone that has been following my posts would have noticed my recent concentration on matte paint jobs or vinyl wraps. This stuff is the next "to-do," mod!

However, does it seem to work on every car? It seems that just about every car you can imagine has been given the matte treatment. From Rolls-Royces to BMWs and Ferraris, the numbers continue to get stronger as the months pass by. Does not mean that it looks right.

Moving onto the SL Black, it is a very aggressive looking car -- as one would expect with this AMG treatment -- but I am still finding myself torn on the matte paintjob/wrap.

What I do like is how it makes the venting/ducting and fender flares really pop. When you see an SL Black with a normal  paint job, it does not seem to show its bold lines off. What do I mean? In this trim, it looks like the muscular SL is wearing a tight shirt and flexing as opposed to just passing by incognito.

More importantly, what do you think? Let your voice be heard!

I don't think the SLS is a mistake. It's a niche market car like any super car. Either you love it or hate it. I think it's growing on me. It's a bit retro for what most people know super cars are but hey why be like the rest when you can stand alone? The Gullwing was the original super car so to pay tribute to a great little car it's a good thing for any car enthusiast. The SLR I feel was a success so if they can build on what they learned with the partnership with McLaren then good for them.

The SL65 is a good car but I think I would much rather spend the money to get the SLS instead purely because the styling is different. Matte should trickle its way to the SLS as well.

SLS is a mistake....SL65 Black Series ...right move...Mate, not bad if you add some CF accessories in natural finish.

How the hell is the SLS a mistake? Do you have the market research data on what Mercedes customers want? Do you?

You don't.

Let these companies do what their consumer feedback tells them is right. SLS a mistake? Hilarious.

You should start your own blog and call it "Matte Finish Xtreme Auto Posting, the blog about matte finishes on cars that don't deserve it."

The only car deserving of a matte finish is the mid 1994 Prelude sitting down the road in my neighbors driveway where the bumpers is unpainted black and the body is rustoleum flat gray. Otherwise give me a good wet, fast look. Matte should stay where it belongs, on the floor to wipe my feet.

Fancy the idea, perhaps I can beat you to the patent office ;)

Nyet! Matte paint is so yester-year's gimmick :-(

I read somewhere that matte finishes can't be repaired because it's impossible to get the paint to match unless its from the same original batch. So, you can't do just one panel; the entire car has to be repainted. Does anyone know if that's true?

Side note, I was in Salem, MA a few days before Halloween and there was a matte black 2003 Audi RS6, black rims, tinted out, that looked absolutely unbelievable. Like, drop dead gorgeous, and it was obviously very professionally done.

I'm all for the matte finish. Yeah, I think it's a trend that will die out, but it does look awesome...on the right car.

All trends are cyclical, thus, they die out.

I cannot be 100 percent positive on the paint question but perhaps that would explain why people are using vinyl wraps now.

Fail. Anyone who puts matt paint on cars should be shot. Especially on an SL65. Such an individual should have his balls ripped off with a claw hammer beforehand.
