More news about the Aston competitor coming from BMW

BMW is developing a rival to the Aston Martin V8 Vantage and Porsche 911: a luxury supercar likely to take the name Z10. Autocar reports that this will be designed by BMW's studio in California, though it could be built at the Rolls-Royce factory in Goodwood, England, which has some spare production capacity.

The Z10 is said to be around the same size as a Lamborghini Gallardo, but weighing 250kg less at about 1200kg. It will be built around an aluminium spaceframe chassis similar to that used for the Z8, and will feature a new version of the 500bhp V10 currently used in the M5 and M6; this could be enlarged to 5.5-litres and 550bhp, and could work with a seven-speed sequential-shift gearbox. Equipment will include a carbonfibre folding roof, active spoilers and a downforce-generating venturi underbody. Crucially, it is expected to look a lot more aggressive than the retro-look Z8, which met with a lukewarm reception.

I think there would be a big market for it........something along the lines of the M1. I can't wait to see if it happens, I'm doubting it though. Either way they need to come stronger than they did with the Z8 if they want to compete.

I would figure maybe BMW build a GT type car, but this car needs to be fully R&D'd before production since it's embarrassment for the Z8 which is a shame cause that car is a nice looker. If it should compete with the Gallardo? Maybe....but I would figure BMW go head-tp-head with MB and it's excellent SL-Class. It has always baffled me that BMW never has had a real car in this part of the stratosphere....Especially since they are the makers of great handling cars. Steph mentions crappy service on Bimmers....I owned 2 and have never had any issue from the dealer. They would even come and pick up the car, service it and bring it back to me. (It rarely needed any service besides its regular routine maintenance)

I am not saying Veyron/enzo...etc and Upcoming BMW GT will be in same class.

I just mean to say that if Exotics and Super GTS has done and doing so well,then surely this a lower category GT also will.

ANd OASIS it will be in the same class of Lamborghini Gallardo,Ferrari F430,Aston DB9,Audi R8,MB P8 Mclaren,Lexus GTR 500HP...etc
i said nothing wrong in categorizing it.

Hope to see it soon or atleat it's good Photoshops and Spy photos.

Okay so BMW would like to build an exotic car to compete with the Aston Martins, Lamborgini, Porsche's and etc. That's all fine and dandy. The main question is.... what about their head to head competition with Benz's SL-Class? Is the 6series a true competitor to the SL? As a fan of both companies, i think not.

For BMW to jump so far ahead to build a car to be apart of the Exotic market and not worry about what's important is quite stupid. I feel that they should feed the market where people can afford a car than to go straight to the top risking it all and possibly hitting rock bottom with sales.

In a magazine i saw a review where they put a 645ci against a CLK500. Now if CLK500 is against the 6-series. Then who faces SL? even if M6 went against the SL.... how is it gonna face up against the SL55 or 65? See it don't make sense.

It sounds like a nice idea since they want to be even with Mercedes against the SLR. But they need to find a good base for an exotic. Something perhaps would be in the SL-category first.
