Retro Reincarnation, What Cars Do You WANT To See Brought Back To Life In 2010?

Retro Reincarnation, What Cars Do You WANT To See Brought Back To Life In 2010?
While it looks like 2010 will feature some interesting and unique original designs, there is always room for some reincarnated goodness. Although it has been a bit overkill as of late, retro is "in," and you cannot deny its good looks.

For instance, the latest Chevrolet Camaro and Ford's recent iteration of the GT40 are head turners. Even if you dislike their powertrains or interior accoutrements, I would say it is likely any individual would be hard pressed to say they did not find their designs striking and handsome.

This brings us to the biggest tease of them all: the 2006 Lamborghini Miura concept. Now, the original Miura can be best described as sex on wheels. The car is low-slung and is cutting edge while not being over the top. It is like the ideal person you want to meet in the club; risque and interesting, but you can take them home to mom -- maybe.

The zombified version, seen at the 2006 Detroit Auto Show, was equally stunning.

Although most of its design traits are lifted from the original, there are plenty of little details that are given a modern touch. Example "A," look at its foglights that bear the LP560-4's "propeller" look. Lamborghini Design Chief, Walter de'Silva, drew up this drop-dead gorgeous concept in order to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the original's introduction in Geneva.

Sadly though, Lamborghini's President and CEO, Stefan Winkelmann, confirmed that this concept would not hit showrooms, saying “The Miura was a celebration of our history, but Lamborghini is about the future. Retro design is not what we are here for. So we won’t do the Miura."

FAIL!

Now before I go back into mourning, what car do you want to see given another crack at life?

We'd like to hear from you! Let us know in the comments below.

Personally...

It's my belief that the whole 'retro design' era has run its course and the true innovators in the industry will be looking forward, not backward.

I concur about the retro trend. But, at the same time, I wouldn't mind seeing a well done update of a Split Window or a 65 Riviera or even an Avanti.

I get it that many feel retro has run its course, but for some of us there are strong memories of times gone past that still need to be relived...like an old song that lingers on and on in the mind !

I'd like to see a modern take on the Porsche 944. Big bore 4-cylinder engine mated to a 6-speed manual. Front engine, rear drive and priced to start at about $40,000. With Porsche options, it would be really easy to get the price well north of $50k or $60k, but with just the necessary performance stuff, pricing could remain easy on the enthusiast.

I think a 4 cylinder M in the mold of the first generation M3 would be a good idea good gas mileage great performance, an 8 series, another 6 cylinder 6 series. Also, a lexus SC like the original good looking low slung a luxury sports car, based on the Supra. Also curious to see what a modern day 2000gt would look like.

Lamborghini is 100% correct about not producing the new Miura. Gorgeous car, but the wrong way to go for the future.

Direct retro is a bad idea, but there are some cars with certain unique styling cues which would update well - like the Continental with suicide doors. Ford had a few concepts, none of which were great, but this car can easily be done in a totally modern, futuristic way.

Hey J Mays designers called and want their retrofuturism back. Enough of the rehashing, move on. See example Ford Thunderbird.

I'd love to see an updated, V-8-powered, front-engine, rear wheel-drive line of traditional spacious and comfortable full-sized American 4-door sedans and 4-door station wagons, a successor to cars like the '95 Chevy Impala SS and Buick Estate Wagon. (No fake wood paneling please, an independent rear suspension and a 6-speed automatic.)

I would have also like to have seen a successor to the traditional MG B Convertible and the handsome MG B GT.

Finally, I am looking forward to the upcoming Honda CRZ, which might be a long-awaited successor to the CRX. Let's hope Honda doesn't screw it up.

I would like to see a new version of the late 60s 427 Ac super Cobra Jet, To improve upon the retro Cobra would be to lengthen the wheel base so that it would handle better, as for the massive 427, why not turbo charge it with the eco boost tech, , it retains the high compression and increases efficiency and power, Of course if it were released today it would be safer. It would also cost a lot of money.

I would like to see several comebacks from Porsche starting with the first Porsche ever made -

Type356-01.com - Replicar by VintageReplicar.com

A Modern 550 Spyder

Entry level and smaller 911 with a 2.0 - 2.4 6cyl engine max

A 356 series comeback in general - must keep size down.

People really do not know how large cars have become - even our so called small cars are very large.

I park my Type356-01 next to a SUV and it is almost to funny - Totally out of control like most things these days!
