BMW 1-series convertible coming to Geneva?

I hope BMW decides to build and market a coupe here in the US. BMW needs a back to basics fun to drive car in the spirit of the original 2002tii

So we can point and laugh at the "posers".

Back to Basics =! cheap, and thats all this car is.

I seriously doubt this will be a poser car. BMW has already learned from it's half hearted effort it did in the 90's with th first ti. This BMW is supposed to bring BMW back to it's basic roots, like the 2002 tii. A car that is smaller, nimble and fun to drive. I doubt it will be cheap....like Tha_1 said, I am sure with options it'll be in the $30K's.

I saw the 1-series on several ocasions over in Europe (didn't drive it though). Aside from being way small, it looks and feels cheap to the point where I'd pick a Peugeot over it. My impression was that it's nothing but a euro-mobile for city people and for those that absolutely have to have a BMW badge on the hood. It probably handles like a BMW but it looks like a Ford Fiesta inside. I don't see how the 1-series would gather enough customers in the US ... plus it would compete with their other very good product in that segment, the Mini.

Possibly likely, so the BMW USA people said after I emailed them. They say they will keep options open as far as the coupe/convertible go (So maybe there is a coupe!) As far as interior quality I don't know. I have read comparos in mags such as Britain's wonderful "CAR" and they said it was about as good as a Golf (which VW/Audi according to them still have the best fit and finish to the interior). I agree BMW has a the excellent MINI, but that is just that, it is a MINI, not a BMW and it has it's own legacy and history. I think maybe BMW wants to capture that again in its own ranks....even if it is view as the door into a Bimmer.

For those who doubt the 1's arrival in the US, the CEO said yes last month. It is coming.

i think a base 130i will start at around 30k, and hover around upper 30s fully loaded. It'll compete against the A3 3.2Q, which also starts at around 30. If we're talkinga bout a 1 series for 30k with options in the uS, I don't think it will be the 265 hp one. Personally, I'm sure it'll handle like a BMW, being one of the only rear drive small hatches on the market - it'll be a great car to drive. However, would I spend over 30k on the most entry-level BMW? Probably not... like someone said, that's just trying too hard.

And yes, I've seen and been in the 1 series before. Personally don't think the interior quality is that great. But, that's just me.
