Chrysler's "Coming Home," OR Are They?

Chrysler's
So if there is anything that the American automakers are known for, it is cheesy or stupid commercials. Remember General Motors' "May the best car win," spot with Ed Whitacre?

Although I am sure he is a nice guy that will do his best for the company, I am not sure he was the most awe-inspiring person for the job.

Fast forward to this past week's New Years Day, when Chrysler revealed their latest television spot. Dubbed "Coming home," this commercial takes a walk down memory lane of Chrysler's iconic products from yesteryear.

Although they appear to be getting things right in the marketing department, finally, do you think they have what it takes to compete in 2010? Now armed with an international automaker, are they going to develop a stronger, more compelling product?

What say you, Spies?

Take a look at "Coming home," below:

I am hoping that they make some home improvements.

I guess this is what you do when you are a year or two away from anything new and interesting to sell. Sadly, such a campaign will neither last nor do much to spark any sales. Buckle your seatbelts for a very rough 2010.

Ive said it before and I'll say it again. Chrysler should have never gotten involved with Diamler. Alot of progress in the Chrysler camp got axed. I think its a good move to show past Chrysler achivements. Diamler had no intention of advancing Chrysler. Just gave them an old chassis and deconstructed there mid and small car platform. It took Chrysler profitts to rebuild the Merc reputation. Adios Diamler, and thanks for nothing.

Despite a good commercial, they are seating on only a few products: 300 (getting really stretched on), RAM, and Viper.

To me, it's not looking good unless FIAT does something big.

Chrysler has been up for Bankruptcy. Twice. They received multi-billion dollar bail-outs, paid by taxpayers. "Coming home" to what? Limp along until the *third* round of bankruptcy and bail-outs? Death?

It's a good commercial. Now only if the company, or its owner, delivers on the product front. Sad to say, Fiat is not financially strong enough to fund Chrysler's product investment need. Don't get me wrong, Fiat has enough R&D money but only enough for Fiat cars. Chrysler's characteristics are so different from Fiat that it requires a different set of investment fund altogether. I fear Chrysler will be nothing more than a distribution arm of Fiat chassis in N America. My opinion on Chrysler's operation/products aside, it's a good commercial for delivering the holiday message in my opinion.
