Next Porsche Boxster could receive a three-cylinder turbo engine
As you may know already sports cars manufacturer are trying to make their vehicles greener in order to be accepted on the market and by the clients. After we found out that Ferrari is going to present a hybrid concept at the Geneva Motor Show, today we found out that another manufacturer is considering making its cars friendly with the environment.

According to our sources, Porsche is considering adding a new four-cylinder engine or even a turbocharged three-cylinder powerplant to its next Boxster range. “A Boxster with a four-cylinder engine, or maybe even a three-cylinder turbo, could produce between 180bhp and 200bhp and emit just 180g/km of CO2,” said Boxster model line director Hans-Jurgen Wohler.

Really?

If Porsche does indeed produce a vehicle with less than 6 cylinders, they'd most likely give it an entirely new moniker.

We'll See Soon Enough...

Its a shame, because I believe most people who buys Porsches are not too concerned with it's emissions and "environmental" image. With that said, it does not matter if Porsche puts a V-twin or a 16 cylinder in the car. Just as long as it gives the proper performance that one expects from a Porsche, then GREAT!

I'm all for new powerplant concepts but not sure I like the number "3" in a reciprocating engine...can't we scale down a 6 or something?

I dont see the point in creating an even lower entry level. Porsche's are sports cars and super cars. Why make them with so little power?. The Porsche 911 Turbo already produces so little emissions it's better than any F430 or Gallardo so that's an awesome accomplishment. So my question is... Who cares about a 3 cylinder Boxster. Boxsters are great handling cars with decent performance, a fun little car to drive. Why ruin it with less power? It boggles my mind.

Regardless I am a fan of the Cayman S, 911 and forever wish there will be a successor to the awesome Porsche CGT.
