2009 Sales In Review

2009 Sales In Review
The fact that 2009 was a terrible year for the auto industry is not secret, now with the year officially over we can tally up the total sales figures and see how bad it really was. In the end all but three automakers suffering sales decreases. Subaru, Kia and Hyundai all improved their sales significantly while Volkswagen, Audi and Ford were able to keep their sales declines below 15%. Even generally popular and healthy brands had lost as much as one third of their 2008 sales. The remaining brands for the most part have already been discontinued, or are hanging on in the US market by a thread. However, there is hope for the entire industry with most brands showing increases in December sales and total 2010 sales are expected to surpass those of 2009 easily. Unfortunately this might not happen quickly enough for some brands.

Audi and MB doing a lot better than BMW which leads to the next question: Why BMW is doing low volume ugly pointless cars in this time when they need High volume nice cars to sale?...

I think BMW is in the process of moving up market. Or at least they think they are. Look at their new car prices and you'll notice they are much higher than 2 years ago. The 7 series pricing is an example. I wouldn't be surprised if the new 5 series is going to be a lot more expensive.

You are probably refering to the X6 and 5GT.
The X6 is as different to the X5 the 3er sedan is to a 3er coupe. It's not because they use different monikers that the cars are designed and engineered from scratch. It didn't cost BMW a lot to put these cars on the market.

The reason why BMW isn't doing as well as Audi and MB is because they did not, as Audi (new A4, Q5, A5) and MB (GLK, E) unveiled new cars in 2009.

2009 BMW lineup was aging and buyers are aware the new models are coming.

Wait for next year, with the compiled sales results of the new X3, 5er and 7er.

The 7 series isn't doing as great in the US as its brand new status should indicate. But a new X3 is definitely needed, BMW is losing a lot of sales in that segment, maybe the X1 which should arrive sooner will help.

sigh...thank goodness you're too stupid to know a good thing when you see it. it would be a shame to waste a class-leading car like the 3-series, 5-series, etc on someone like you. what do you drive?

M53R: I think you could be right, but if you are right, then that is wrong move in this time.
MSP6: I think that start of the 7 series was very bland, the X6 and 5GT are new cars but not a volume selers. BMW Did a very big investment in cars that won't give them profit, I hope the new 5 and next 3 help them to improve their economy. I am very positive with the new 5 and if they put the 6GT on the market they will bite a lot of the CLS cake as A7 will.

BMW sold more cars than Mercedes and Audi in the U.S. for 2009. Only Lexus sold more of the Luxury brands.

davids a douche bag that believes his rebadged toyota harrier is a real lexus lmao. i heard david's a momma's girl but you didn't hear it from me. usually lexus owners or fans if you can call them are pretty dull people. it's sad to see one get suckered into such boring cars. they are good for one thing. their price. everything except the lf-a is cheap in price so theres that bang for buck. lexus is = too small inside. lexus gs = is the same build quality as an avalon, lexus ls = maybach 52 wannabee, lexus sc430 = mercedes sl wannabee but never was, never could, lexus hs hybrid = loaded up luxury corolla/prius, lexus rx = toyota harrier, toyota prado land cruiser = lexus gx, lexus lx = toyota landcruiser w/ different front lights. sad how cars are rebadged.
thats why i dont buy infiniti's cause they are rebadged still. it's embaraassing to know that here you have a 'luxury' car but in the motherland there just normal economical cars... how can you sleep at night. haha

Doesn't Lexus only sell cars in the US? BMW can keep the US. Audi easily dominated Europe and China in 2009.
