BMW's 350 HP M Version Of The 1 Series Coupe To Be Unleashed Mid-2011

BMW’s M division has started development of an M version of the 1-series coupé, set to be equipped with a twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine producing 350bhp.

The new two-door, details of which were first uncovered by Autocar back in November, has now been added to BMW’s stable of future production models, with right-hand-drive UK sales set to begin in mid-2011.

The decision to put the car into production has been attributed to an “overwhelmingly positive reaction” to recent customer clinics, according to at least one high-ranking BMW official. Aimed at attracting younger customers to BMW’s performance cars, the new coupé is set to become the M division’s most affordable model.

Every car they sell will now be tranformed into an 'M' product....except for the 7-series...hmmm! but then...what is to compare to the S63 AMG?

Top Gear actually compared the 760Li to the S63 twice! The S63 lost both times...

thats because the 760Li (V12) should be compared to a S600 (V12), not an S63 AMG...

Are you kidding me? They haven't resolved the HPFP failure in the Twin-Turbo engines for 3 years running. And now BMW wants to put out another one? Does BMW want the 135 M to have 20-50% of their HPFP failed within the first 5,000 miles? Solve the HPFP first then we can talk about future twin-turbo engine projects.

r u a business man or do u suck ur daddys bank account dry to the bone???.. you do know that car companies are businesses right? they dont care about what u or me thinks. its a premium brand. they are allowed to haev premium over their cars. people who can afford to buy luxury brands think about the fun or comfort that comes with a car or both. only people less fortunate bitch and whine about awwwwww they are charging this much more for 50 horsepower? for christ sake. the gtr V is that much more and they mostly made the car lighter?????.

1990: Yes it is a business but you have to price cars well to be competitive. I agree that people who can afford luxury brands think more about the comfort and in this case the joy aspect. However we aren't talking about a 7 series, S-class, A8 or any car like that. This is an entry-level M-car. To have it priced too high as an entry level is not going to boast well for them. In this price range there is a cheaper alternative, the 370Z, which is by no means a premium car but if the numbers is all you want then any car is good enough.

No because they are German they don't just turn the boost up they add gadget's nicer interior bits, limited slip differentials and find ways to adds more weight too so they can justify charging 50 grand for a 1!!! So remeber you pay more, you get less car and get a lil more weinershnitzle.

The M3 is a naturally aspirated V8. You know there's no turbo in there, right Badgewhore?
