Joe: I'm not sure if the Prius is exactly an environmental friendly car. In the long term, lead and chemicals from the batteries are a horrible impact on the ecology. I believe it's $7,000 to replace a battery? someone correct me if I am wrong. What you gained today in saving gas money you lose tomorrow replacing the battery, which is pure toxic waste. However if North America finds more ways to recycle these lead-acid batteries that would be problem solved.

Diesel is a great alternative to petrol. My family had an old 300SD TD and it was great on fuel. It had decent torque as well. Anyways congrats to VW.

u know how much crap comes from the production of those damned batteries that go into hybrids? diesel is the better choice for saving the planet. go do your research. it doesn't save the planet. it only gives you a tad better mileage for the present. the future is either 100% electric or still petrol/gas.

The Prius batteries are expected to last the lifetime of the vehicle and if they do need to be replaced, the used battery is 95% recyclable at near-zero emissions.
