CES 2010: Ford's Mulally Talks About The Future Of SYNC And MyFord Touch Debuts

Ford is really starting to spice things up with its SYNC software. The software, which 001 thinks is the best in the biz, is going to be getting some serious upgrades and new capabilities, according to Ford's head honchos.

Derrik Kuzak discussed design goals when it came to upping the SYNC's capabilities and mentioned that due to a partnership with the University of Michigan, the possibilities of new applications is limitless.

An example of an innovative application is a program that would allow drivers to warn others of weather ahead.

Kuzak said, "The sky, or should I say, the cloud is the limit."

CNET reports:

"LAS VEGAS--Ford CEO Alan Mulally says tech geeks will feel right at home in Ford cars.

Mulally is delivering the Thursday morning keynote at the Consumer Electronics Show, where he said "smart technology," such as access to smart phones, and fuel efficiency are core to Ford's strategy.

"Green technology and smart innovation are helping us serve our customers and differentiate Ford," Mulally said.

It's kinda too geeky, but it's nice to have something to play with when the car isn't in motion. Pair that with stop-and-go adaptive cruise control, backed by precollision, and all is swell.

The program seems to have just the right amount of complications to make it all worthwhile. I hate it when an awesome gadget has its limits, and I go, "That's it?"

I think sync is rather unique, you can play with it without having to take your eyes off the road or hands off the wheel. Everything is voice activated, from phone calls, to weather forecasts, to searching for that song that is stuck in your head.
