With A Bid On The Table GM Board Meets To Plan Shut Down Of Saab
Board members of General Motors' troubled car maker Saab will meet in Sweden today to discuss plans to wind down the unit even as last-minute bids emerged, a person familiar with the situation said.

At least two suitors made offers on Thursday, but the meeting is expected to deal mainly with the looming wind-down process ordered by GM, the person said.

"What happens with the bids is fully up to GM to decide and so I find it hard to see that any sort of stance (on the bids) will be taken during the meeting," said the person, who could not be named because of the sensitive nature of the talks.

Why would BMW want to buy SAAB ?

BMW is in business to make money, not to please a few car enthousiasts that, even if SAAB is being saved, won't buy one.

Its sad to see SAAB being put down but its business, only business.
SAAB has been in the red since the 80's.

I read on one F1 site today that Bernie Eccelestone is interested in buying Saab from GM.

This would be a good idea, maybe Bernie would than enter Saab in F1 and the brand will get lot of desperately needed publicity. Also many Middle East companies are investing a lot in automotive sector, they could also be potential buyers. Anyway it would be better to sell the brand than completely closing it.
