Another look at the potential Porsche 928

Would make sense for Porsche to get back into the GT market again, after having abandoned it in the 80's.... I wonder though if Porsche is expanding too much....Boxster, Cayman, Cayenne, 911, the upcoming Panamera....and this model as well....This photoshop rendition does look good however.

It seems to be the fashionable thing to do...We have BMW releasing the 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 series (and their derivatives)...not to mention the Z4, the Z4M, the Z4 coupe...Then Audi has just announced they want 40 different models...Mercedes keeps on releasing new models as well...we have the A, C, E, S, ML, CLS, G, R, SL etc. etc. Personally I think it weakens the brands...but it obviously strengthens their pocket, which do you think they're worried about? I've lost respect for the Porsche brand since the release of the Cayenne (as nice as it is)...The day we get an Aston Martin/Lamborghini/Ferrari SUV would be a terrible day indeed...

I think you're misinterpreting the OEMs. I disagree with your claim of overexpansion. It would seem that OEMs are out to make some money, and to everyones surprise, they are. It's a for profit business. But the thing is that in order to sell cars you need to sell your brand image. You do that by introducing exciting niche models like the R8, RS6, RS4, TT, etc. and by participating in Racing events (and I must add here with incredible success!). Audi is or will be introducing some needed models in its line up like the Q7 and Q5 and other models to highlight the brands image.

It seems that the wealth is increasing (for a small group of the population) but certainly the Chinese and Indian markets are growing like rabbits, so it seems to make sense to expand.
