2011 Bmw 740i/740Li pricing announced
As you may know already, the 2011 Bmw 740i/740Li was revealed back in December but made its North American debut today at the Detriot Auto Show. The German manufacturer announced the pricing for the new sedans, as it follows: both models will go on sale in the United States as 2011 models in Spring 2010 at a price of $71,025 for the 740i and $75,425 for the long wheelbase 740Li (prices Include $875 Destination and Handling charge). For those folks who don’t know, the new 7-Series carries a twin-turbocharged inline-6 engine that produces V8 power on six-cylinder fuel consumption.

The engine delivers an impressive 315 horsepower at 5800 rpm and 330 lb-ft of torque from 1600-4500 rpm and features, besides the all-aliminum construction, High Precision direct fuel injection and Double-VANOS variable camshaft technology.

i agree a fuel efficient BIG luxury sedan. I know mercedes did it with the last 2 years of the previous S-Class where they did an S350 but I dont think they sold well and they didnt offer the bi-turbo on it either. I think this move will get more people into a 7 series who dont want the big V8 power the 750 offers

to me, this will be the most appealing 7: (even) better handling, much cheaper with better gas mileage while still being plenty quick. Good job BMW!

Not only is it an absolutely politically correct marketing move, but Joe Public will see "740" and think nothing has changed! A move like this almost makes up for the X6. (It's a joke my friends)

great move as many people dont need more than the inline 6, the only thing thats gona drive me nuts are the people taking off the " 740" badges and putting up "750" just pisses me off, lol

that's a great move by BMW. The power output and performance of the twin turbo 6-cylinder are virtually identical to the 2002-2005 745, and with a 0-60 time of 5.7-5.8 seconds it's squarely in line with some of the competitor V8 offerings. I think BMW is making a mistake though by only offering the 750 with xDrive, the 740 should offer it too.

1UAW it has nothing to do with racing it, smart guy. But if BMW came out with a $75k flagship sedan that drove like a pig, couldn't get out of its own way, and got smoked by every other car in the segment, it wouldn't sell. The point here is the 740 will offer all the same prestige, luxury, and elegance as the 750 (and every othe car in the segment), and at $70-75k to start it's certainly still expensive. It also will perform on par with the 745, which is more than adequate, and for someone who doesn't want to spend $100k on a 750 and doesn't need a 400hp twin turbo V8, it's a great alternative. If only they'd offer it with xDrive...

Great pricing with the new engine, but as JRobUSC points out, they should have included the xDrive system as an option.

They will come out with the X-drive version, probably later this fall. BMW is a global company and most of the world does not care about AWD. Just like the new 5 series wont be offered in AWD uuntil this fall. So, for the first 5 months, rear wheel drive only.
I think this is an awesome move. The new Z4 costs just as much though! Crazy...

Audi is a global company and all there cars are AWD.There biggest markets for this car are the North America, Europe and Middle East where AWD is a benefit.

very good decision to sell more of the smaller-engined european models here in the states.

a spectacular engine with more than adequate power for most who buy the 7-series. and at that price point, it's a bargain next to the competition.
