Infiniti Planning A Twin Turbo G25 Sedan For 2011

Infiniti Planning A Twin Turbo G25 Sedan For 2011

Inside Line has learned from an unnamed high-ranking source within Nissan that Infiniti will launch a turbocharged version of its popular G sedan in the fall of 2010. The entry-level model will be called the G25 and will use the same turbocharged 2.5-liter V6 Nissan uses in the Japan-market Skyline 250GT (The Infiniti G is sold in Japan as the Nissan Skyline.)

At launch, the smaller turbo engine will be in the G sedan only and be sold alongside the naturally aspirated V6-powered G37.

Man, Infinity sure has a talent for making a good car look boring.

No matter what, better than looking ugly.

At first, the G35 was cool and contemporary. Then, Infiniti showed that they had a car perfect for evolutionary designs. Then I got bored, and yet they still kept going. Now that the tastes of many of their customers have moved on, Infiniti decided to stay with their two brush strokes, thinking that they could be Aston Martin or Porsche or something. That would be fine if every time I thought of the new G in my head, I wouldn't accidentally be reminded of a Maxima or Altima. The interior is worse than the droopiness of the new M's and embarrasingly less attractive than the EX's and FX's despite being cheaper by only a few cents.

I can't believe Infiniti came up with something that the average person would've thought of as a predecessor of the outgoing model. Lexus can actually be considered less conservative.

There is no turbo V6, only a non turbo VQ25HR that has 225bhp.

That is a good power output, and if priced correctly, it would be a winner for sure.

And without a huge bloated engine weighing down the front, it should improve handling, which has long needed improvement.

1. I'm not sure if any weight a twin turbo 2.5 can be shed compared to 3.7 NA, considering 335 is 220lb heavier than 328.

2. Long needed improvement? Maybe, though I can attest G's steering is better than 3 owning both. What G really needs is firmer suspension setup, better engine, and most importantly, lighter platform.

Someone at Infiniti has been listening to me afterall...

Did you read the article? It might not be what you expect. I too have been advocating an FI 2.5 producing 350hp/330lb-ft, since VQ37 is really over the limit.

Infiniti will be out of mind if report is true. Therefore I believe it's a bogus rumor. A 300lb lighter platform is the priority, then they can have an NA VQ30 for base G, and a FI VQ25 to go against 335 and S4. An DCT is also welcome.

What does entry level mean for their pricing. Th3e current G37 starts at $34k. I would have rather they made a slightly smaller Acura TSX sized car and start it in the high 20's. But that probably won't happen.

Actually I wish a lot of the luxury people in these segments would offer a smaller sedan in the high 20's starting price. But that is me dreaming of days past, now it takes 40k to play in the market.

I know, but I do wonder if Honda will ever bring the CSX down from Canada for the US market to fill in the space where the RSX used to play. Sure it is not the same as the RSX but it does fit a gap they now have. Aside from the HUGE one in the beaks.

I'm not taking a shot at it, but isnt the CSX nothing more than a touched-up civic? (At least, the one's I have seen seem to be nothing more than a civic with an Acura badge)

Simple Formula: The 2.5 Altima Engine 175hp + Turbo = G25 (225hp-240hp)

Why? Rival Bmw 328xi, Mercedes C300, Audi A4 2.0t
Will also have better Lease Programs

(possibility)
New Altima debuts 2012 - 2.5T high turbo boots(260-270hp) most likely to replace 3.5 for fuel efficiency. Engine will then be carried over to the majority of their cars and suv's.
