2010 DETROIT AUTO SHOW: 001 & 00R Pick The Best Of The Show AND It Was A Tie! Did YOU Guess Right?

2010 DETROIT AUTO SHOW: 001 & 00R Pick The Best Of The Show AND It Was A Tie! Did YOU Guess Right?
Although the 2010 Detroit Auto Show was not the most impressive display of the automotive pornography, it did show one thing very clearly; the state of the industry. Do not become gullible because many of the presidents and chief executives are grinning and saying "things are fine!"

But, that does not mean the show was without its top picks. No matter how terrible a show can be, you can guarantee that there will be one car that stands out amongst the masses. In this case, there were two.

Why two?

001 and I were torn because there were two prevailing themes with our choices, realism and sheer beauty. So, we gave you a taste of what is likely to come and what may not be so possible.

For realism, we agreed that the 2012 Ford Focus was the best car -- and one of the few -- to make a debut. It is a much improved design over past iterations and it is certainly going to be built. The great thing about this particular automobile is that it will be taking Ford in the right direction. Now, the company has finally come around to grasping the greatness of their global efforts and will be bringing all of their world's teams to work together on future products. The Focus is the first global effort. Interior quality has been stepped up substantially with impressive materials and a clean integration.

As lover's of all things automotive, it did not take very long for the Spies to come to the conclusion that Audi's Detroit Showcar eTron was the most stunning example at the 2010 North American International Auto Show. Whether or not it will be produced remains up in the air, but fear not, because rumors have been circulating that this car -- or its styling themes -- will be making an appearance in a baby "R."

We say bring it on.

If you question the Audi as a top pick, take one look at the interior and 001's favorite, the faux knock-off wheels. It appears as though the interior is one piece of leather! It really is a triumph of automotive design and style.

Congratulations to both marques. You both have managed to come up with compelling products to bring a smile to an auto enthusiast's face.

What do you think of the Spies picks? Two thumbs up or two thumbs down?

Give us some feedback down below.

In the meantime, I will be treking back to New York City.

When is a cross between a hatchback and a mini van a winner?

Good choice- but if you guys were giving out the bronze it would have to go to the XTS...

Disagree, I would choose the Jetta hybrid coupe.

I agree with the Focus, however I think I might have to see the e-tron in person to appreciate it. To be honest, this is the first time I have taken a good look at the pictures. It hasn't really caught my eye.

Audi eTron is a concept, Ford Focus is a REAL car that will be in dealerships soon and available for purchase by many many people, mainstream if you will. So for me the e-Tron takes a backseat as part of this so called tie. I will give it kudos for design cues and such. But in terms of a car that I am really interested in seeing reviewed, driven, priced, and sitting on a dealership floor for sale, the Focus would have to be my fave hands down. I look forward to seeing it closer up in NY at the Javits Center.

Hopefully they give us an RS or SVT version to boot. As for the Jetta Hybrid Coupe, a coupe Jetta is long overdue dating back to it should have come out as a two door back in the early 2000's. And a hybrid for VW is just dumb when they could be giving us a good lineup of very efficient diesels, but alas they keep them off U.S. shores.

Definitely agree on the Focus. Best in Show.

Couldn't disagree more on the Audi. I know you guys love Audi. But this is a mildly attractive coupe in an overcrowded, overpriced field where Audi already has a stunning entrant, the TT. Its powertrain if released will not likely be anything more advanced than what is currently on the market-DI, Turbo, maybe a hybrid. No way this will be electric right away, and when it does get an EV, it will be too expensive, short range, yada yada yada.

"A triumph of automotive design and style" "appears as though the interior is one piece of leather." Good lords. Just ridiculous Audispies at its best.

I'd suggest the Caddy CTS-V or XTS, Buick Regal, or Toyota FT-CH over this Audi anyday.

I agree with 001. That VW Coup is very nice. Also it looks production ready. All VW needs to do is put the 200HP turbo 4 in it and sports suspension and I'm sold. Better yet put the 261 HP R engine in it or both. That's a car that will definately sell!
