SOUND OFF! U.S. Transportation Secretary Favors ANOTHER Cash For Clunkers Program How About You?
Will there be another Cash for Clunkers program to help jumpstart the auto industry, and the economy, this year? U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood was here to launch the 2010 North American International Auto Show. He likes Cash for Clunkers, but insists a rerun in '10 will be left up to Congress.

"This was the most wildly successful program ever, selling 800,000 cars in less than 30 days," he said. "You see no criticism of Cash for Clunkers in America."
Save for a fringe group of tea partiers gathering in the snow outside Cobo Hall, LaHood's appearance created no controversy. He emphasized that it's up to Congress to revive C4C, and wouldn't entertain the notion that his Transportation department and the administration might lobby for it later this year, even as he talked up the program to the press.

Still, despite handing off the issue to Congress, there have been rumblings that the Obama administration may push to relaunch the program again, by this spring or summer, after Americans get their tax returns. The administration would be working to make this year's C4C model simpler, and probably a bit cheaper, with lower tax incentives than the '09 program.

Fine - but it needs to be for FORD, GM, and Chrysler groups only.

Badgewhore with all due respect, Thank God for Palin,Beck,O'Riley,Limbuagh and Fox news. They peal apart the left wing socialists, force it down the publics throat BS. There is a reason these conservative books and news outlets are number one and the left is falling like a prom dress. I don't know of any poor man or woman that signs paychecks. Also " Money from the Government" is your brain that infected!! Its taxpayer money!! It was yours and mine first. I'm sure you are aware of the small, medium and large businesses in the private sector that create jobs that not only pay corporate taxes but employee taxes. Its the private sector that foots the bill for your Left wing democrat bafoonish big government bully crap. As far as another Klunker bill *&^% NO!!

Well I think they should one up Japan and let our cash for clunkers program just be for domestic cars only. WHY? Well let's see if we ever go to war again, I mean a real on fighting someone substantial other then tribal brown people in the sand, we will need manufacturing capacity to make guns, tanks, and Jeeps! This is the main reason why the Big 3 can't die, this is why I bought my Jeep. The product is almost there with Ford and its catching up with GM and Chrysler needs to sharpen it's pencil but will soon. This is why this is America!

(I mean GM is catching up with Ford) Ford is at the Korean Quality and biting at the ankles of the Japs and FAR better then the Germans.

I agree with this. Honestly I think this will just pull ahead sales that would have waited a few years. I don't foresee this happening again but if it does I do think there will be a nice bump the economy as happened last time.

People forget that the idea isn't to waste money but to add an incentive to spend more money to stimulate the economy. Did it work last time, sure. Will it again, sure. Is it the best way to spend the money, I don't know. But it is surely better than giving it to banks who sit on it and don't loan it out like they were asked to.

said jackasses not only made a TRAINWRECK of the economy, they FAKED 'intelligence' reports to fool congress into voting for war.

who among the R-wing dittoheads here actually does not think these WARS are far more wasteful than a DOZEN c4c programs could ever be?

I was in favor of the first C4C program, however it is clear that it did not achieve the intended goals, so no, I am not in favor of a repeat.

c4c worked FAR BETTER than any other bailout program.

don't overlook the fact that the cash was for only a FRACTION of the price for the new cars sold. buyers still had to cough up/finance the balance.
so the gov't got LEVERAGE of some 4x-5x for every single dollar INVESTED in the economy. can't say the same for ANY of the bailouts.
