Volkswagen Says With Changes It Will Consider Formula One in 2013

Volkswagen Group is still open to entering Formula One from 2013, should the sport make some fundamental changes.

VW’s motorsport chief Kris Nissen wants the sport to improve its image, drive down costs and improve its stability before the group commits itself to F1. This, Nissen believes, is the responsibility of the new FIA president Jean Todt and the exisiting teams.

“There is a difference between the brand Volkswagen and the Volkswagen group," he said. "The VW group has a lot of brands, 10 now, with different images. If the group enters Formula 1, they would need to decide which brand, and I personally think that they would decide on another brand than Volkswagen.

They have proven though they know how to compete and win in most every arena the choose, so if they enter they probably will do well.

IMHO They need to enter under the Bentley banner though.

- The same thing was said about Toyota when they entered into F1. You saw how that turned out. Racing and sales success doesn't guarantee F1 racing Success. I'm not sure why people make that mistake time and time again.

I would say they should use Porsche for F1.

In the 80´s McLaren won three times the championship with Porsche-TAG-Turbo-engines.

Porsche was actually interested in 2009 when BMW sold Sauber, but it was stopped by VW.

I wish them that it will not be the same flop as with BMW in F1.
