Report: Ford to boost output of big SUVs
n an effort to meet an increase in demand, Ford Motor Co. plans to ramp up production of its full-sized SUVs, Ford Americas President Mark Fields said in an interview conducted last Monday at the Detroit Auto Show.

Sales of the Ford Expedition rose 45% in December, while sales of its Lincoln Navigator sibling increased by 60%. Last year, Ford had halted SUV production to move assembly equipment to a different plant. A 60-day supply is what’s regarded as normal but lately, supplies have dwindled.

America for increasing demand in safer more comfortable/practical suvs? Or America for Ford increasing production relative to that demand?

Great, that plant is less than 2 miles from my house and a few people in my neighborhood work there. I am glad to know their jobs are slightly more secure.

All the face palms on the internet is not enough for the decision Ford has made.

Cheap gas for 12 months and its like 2008 never happened. We are our own worst enemy.

The oil companies want to keep gas cheap now until all of the alternative fuels/engines lose their cachet and then they will screw us all again.

It is guaranteed. That is what they do (maximize profit).

I would think the best way to maximize profit is to slowly raise the price over time with many small fluctuations to the point that people won't realize just how much they are paying for it. Rather than your approach where you don't make any money till later, lose out due to the time value of money, and become black listed as a public enemy.

.....As gas prices jump 10 cents per gallon in three days. Nice!

Hey, if you cannot afford a 'Big' vehicle, then don't buy one! Pretty simple formula. If you can afford a nice SUV, then go right ahead and purchase one, its still a 'free' country the last time I checked.

THE BIG LIE THAT WE NEED TO DRIVE LITTLE CARS TO SAVE GAS IS BEGINNING TO SHOW WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE DO. [ PEOPLE DIE ] WHY THEN DO WE SEE SMALL CARS FOR SALE JUST AFTER THEY WERE BOUGHT? I'LL TELL YOU , SOMEONE HAD A CLOSE CALL AND THOUGHT IT WOULD BE SAFER IN A BIGGER CAR NO MATTER HOW MUCH THE GAS WAS. SO BIGGER IS BETTER , AND MORE COMFORTABLE.
