CONFIRMED: Audi's e-tron Design Concept To Become The New R4

CONFIRMED: Audi's e-tron Design Concept To Become The New R4

The trimmer, lighter, considerably less red Audi E-tron electric-car concept shown here in Detroit is a preview of the company's upcoming production midengine sport coupe, according to sources at Audi of America.

Oh, you know, the company will replace the carbon-fiber with metal for the body panels, of course, and there isn't a chance in hell that those billion-spoke chrome rims are going to see the road. But the basic shape of the car is indicative of what we'll see in a couple of years as the R4. We've reported on the R4 program before, but this is the first time Audi has presented any styling hints.

Wonder how this will be positioned against the TT, or will it replace it? And with VW group owning Porsche, do they need so many sports cars? The front styling is a very nice evolution of all things Audi, but I hope the car receives some body rework. Especially from rear three quarter view this car looks like a hotwheels characture of a 60/70s ponycar from Detroit. - In particular the corvette style wheel humps, flying buttresses and the form development around the rear tail lamp area.

Yeah, "Autopinion" is right. Let's tame that aggressive aesthetic, water down those curves and creases in the sheetmetal, and lose everything distinctive until we're left with a design Toyota designers can slap the Camry badge onto. What is it with car designers always changing their designs up and trying do do something different? Thank goodness we have corporate bean counters to keep those designers in check and make sure the production version looks much better than those crazy, "Hotwheels" concept cars.

And you are probably a world acclaimed designer or automobile/art expert right? You must be to claim a need for a redesign.
