SPIED: Are These Pictures Of The Next-Gen 1-Series OR Upcoming 1-Series M1/iS/Tii?
Although our friends at CAR Magazine seem to be confident that these pictures depict the next-generation 1-Series, I cannot be so sure.

With leaked information coming out of Canada that a 335iS is in the works, we can be about 80 percent sure that a 135iS/M1/Tii is in the works. Especially since Autocar confirmed it a week ago.

The question remains what is THIS though? With a widened rear track, could it be an all-new 1 or merely testing for the latest sport version of the 1-Series? It looks awfully similar to the test car that was spotted by 1Addicts late last year.

Personally, I think it is a 1-Series Tii/iS/M1, whatever it is BMW is doing. Go, BMW, GO!

CAR reports:

"These are the first pictures of the new BMW 1-series Coupé coming in 2012. Caught cold-weather testing in Scandinavia, this is an early mule for the next-gen coupé: prototypes of the regular 1-series hatchback have been spied on the road for a while now.

Nice pictures, but will the real BMW 1-series Coupé be a looker?

That’s the plan. BMW’s current 1-series – whether in three- or five-door hatch, or coupé and cabriolet form – looks rather awkward. For the Gen-2 1-series, BMW’s design team will massage the looks to keep the identifiable traits (kidney grill, ’angle eye’ lights, Hofmeister kink), but aim to make the company’s smallest car beautiful in order to fend off the forthcoming Audi A1..."

well of course thats not the next gen 1er, given that that's the identical front end of the current gen car, but likely the upcoming iS or ///M1

Not necessarily.

Could be a mule with the chassis underneath. Although I am betting otherwise...

If it's a mule, then the next generation 1-series will be either identical in size as the current one or smaller. Smaller is better with the same or larger engine output.

Lose some weight/hiehgt/porkiness, then we're talking. No turbo please, just plain old NA I6 of 265 hp.

You can't see? Why? U blind?

Hp doesn't mean everything- A 220 hp Exige S outruns 335 by 4 seconds on Laguna. A 265hp/3000 lb can be as fast as current 135, with better throttle dynamic from an NA engine. Why do you think GT3 exist when GT2 and 911 turbo are available?

LOL.... The real fact is, please read both my post - I'm NOT talking about 1M at all, just saying I'd prefer a 130 of lighter weight than current 135. Seem you are 'truly' blind.

Of course I know Lotus or GT3 are track car, they were used just for reasoning's sake. Your definition of 'fast' seems to be strictly one dimensional, straight line. What more can I say?

Quote from Randy Pobst on 135 from video:

"..... significant body roll.... I didn't enjoy the understeer, a lot of it.......... I didn't think the car is well balanced in the middle of corner"
