Toyota Quality Officer Focuses On Image And Safety After "Due Diligence" Shortfalls
Hiroyuki Yokoyama, the top defect troubleshooter at Toyota Motor Corp., had just taken over as the company's general manager for quality when his first crisis hit.
It was 2005, and Toyota was recalling nearly 1 million pickups and SUVs in the United States that might have been equipped with faulty steering rods. It was a sign of things to come.
Four years later, after Yokoyama had been promoted to managing officer for quality and customer service, an even bigger crisis erupted.
"In this job, every day is a drama," Yokoyama, 58, said in an interview.

Complete Fabrication. Nothing is wrong with Toyota's Quality. Toyota builds the best cars in the world!!!
None of the negative stuff that's coming out about Toyota is true. They are all lies created by the other car manufacturers in an effort to topple the greatest car company that ever has and ever will exhist.

Toyota and Honda had better reliability in the past with the use of Nippon Denso components, which lately don't seem as good as they were. Many parts are made in China or else where and not Japan. Suppliers are under tremendous price pressure from Toyota and they will have to make compromises. Toyota needs to see the big picture because they are valuing profit more than reliability. It catches up to them now and will take more than a quality officer to change. If this guy is saying every day is drama then the top dog needs to stop all assemblies and figure how they can get out of this mode of operating.

Honda is way better for reliability and safety when compared to Toyota, I thought that honda was getting better, I own a 2007, and I wouldn't want to ever drive an older one, unless it was the Acura NSX.

And here they still are forcing their suppliers to cut costs?

No, the recent supplier cost cuts are recent, the cars that are crashing have already been made. I'm talking about Toyota contradicting itself when it says it is going to focus on image... by making cheaper cars...

The word "Quality" has many meanings. Aside from reliability and safety issues, many recent Toyota products have suffered from cheap-looking hard plastic on their instrument panels and interior surfaces. Not only do they look cheap, but they tend to rattle as they come loose when the car ages. The seats of recent Toyotas have also become progressively less comfortable, especially for tall American drivers, as they have short, unsupportive bottom cushions. Even though they still seem reasonably reliable, they're not as good as they used to be in the 1990s.

The fact that toyota's quality has been slipping is old news, I just can't wait until they do brake by wire, lol Lets hope not.

Google toyota engine sludge, or Tacoma rusting frames, or Tundra rusting frames... That is not quality.

Well...sounds like a bunch of chatter but here's something to think about. Giv'em (Toyota) time and they'll come up with a way to start manufacturing their own parts inhouse just like did and will continue to do with their new Supercar the Lexus LFA.

1uaw, This was an interesting link that you posted, although I have known for a while that Toyota quality has slipped for a long time now, and mysteriously consumer Reports have never reported a single problem, try ang Google Toyota engine sludge, you will be surprised at all the blogs and pages of complaints, and in CR there in absolutely no mention of that,WHY? I consider your engine dying due to sludge a major problem in a new car, I would bet you that all the Toyota owners that were not re- reimbursed for the engine problem have a lot to say about Toyota problems and never trust Consumer Reports again. Lexworld, after you google the above you will humbly eat your words, I won't rub it in, the more that people know about reliability problems in all of the auto companies the better they will become to be competitive, if we keep praising garbage they will remain garbage.
