GM offering free maintenance visits to current Pontiac owners
In an attempt to prevent Pontiac customers from straying to other brands, General Motors Co. will be providing a free maintenance program. GM’s decision to shut down Pontiac will likely discourage many from buying a GM brand in the future and so it went with this different approach to attract Pontiac owners into the existing Buick-GMC US dealerships.

GM is offering four free service checks to current Pontiac owners who bought a new car or a certified vehicle in 1999 or sooner. Brian Sweeney, general manager of Buick-GMC, said that those participating in the campaign would total to about 1 million and that all Buick-GMC dealerships in the US will be participating in this scheme as well.

I received this offer for my 2009 G8 GT. It is a good deal, as the car holds almost 9 quarts of oil!

The title and article contradict each other. The title says "free maintenance". The article says "free service checks". They're not the same thing. A service check just means they're going to inspect the vehicle.

Now that you have 4 free service checks, EVERYTHING will be f'ked up according to the service technician.

Based on the coupon, they do an oil change, rotate tires and then look for stuff to fix.

Good luck to them, our look credit unions now only loan half book value on Pontiac and Saturns.

Forgive pre coffee comments, should read "It's no one local credit union it's all of them". This is for the region of the intermountain west.

I'll have to assume this is true, but it comes as a surprise to me. One would think NADA or KBB would be a reasonable tool when comparing depreciation from one make to another. I'm not saying the stated value is accurate, rather, stated value vs real value should be consistent when comparing a Toyota to a Pontiac. Furthermore, many people get vehicle loans for more than a vehicles kbb value all the time. Why single out Pontiac and Saturn?
FYI, the KBB and NADA values of G8s have been steadily increasing since the cancellation of Pontiac.

Shredmo-

In our area most used cars loans are/were financed through credit unions which got hit hard with repossessions during the "great recession" and now are really tight with their money. Is it fair no, but on autoblog I was reading that Chase Bank won't finance a Saab.

Not surprised at all about Saab (and Isuzu). The dealer/service structure will vanish over night for these vehicles. Pontiac and Saturn have GM's continued support, hence this article.

What the hell...just Pontiac?!? I drive another GM killed brand vehicle (Saturn)...guess they don't care about us moving to another brand. Oh well.

Opens up the door for a trade in and GM gets to sell the owner another GM vehicle... Smart

I agree. My local Pontiac dealer was not affiliated with another GM make. To use this coupon, I'd have to locate an alternative GM dealer. For a small price, GM would create a new relationship between an American car buyer and an American make.

Seems like GM is just about down to begging people to come into a dealer...
