AUTO SPIES EXCLUSIVE: Hot new BMW cabrio caught being tested

The BMW Group in the United States has grown to include marketing, sales, and
financial service organizations for the BMW brand, the MINI brand, and the
ROLLS-ROYCE brand of Motor Cars; DesignworksUSA, an industrial design firm in
California; a technology office in Silicon Valley and various other operations
throughout the country.

By now everyone has seen the BMW 1 Series Coupe in spy photos, and official pictures will be out in a matter of weeks. But now we've caught the convertible version!

These photos, taken near BMW's new testing center in northern Sweden, clearly show the upcoming 1 Series Cabrio with it's canvas roof. We don't think this version of the thrifty Bimmer will arrive at European dealerships for another year or so, and it's still not known if the 1 Series will ever reach the States.

hopefully there will also be a cabrio. A recent email from BMW when I enquired about if they will sell the 1'er Stateside had them reply that they were considering the market with the coupe/cabrio versions....so by this I hope she was meaning a coupe as well. Most people have said a 1 series would be the ti failure of the 90's. I doubt that. The 318ti was an afterthought vehicle, even BMW admits that. The 1 series was designed on it's own. A vehicle all to itself, not a chop job. I think this car if done right could take BMW back to its roots and create a spiritual fun to drive successor to the legendary 2002ti and tii. Leave out the iDrive and those fancy suspension and all settings and give people a fun to drive small Bimmer!

I hate it, looks like a convert. version of a scion or something. I'm hoping that never makes it to our shores.

Check out the just announced Audi RS4 Cabriolet! Apparently coming to Geneva for it's official announcement. The car looks very very mean indeed and only suffers .1 second loss in 0-60 time compared to the sedan version at 4.8 seconds. Available in US showrooms this fall!
