Lexus LFA demand exceeds the limited run of 500 units

Lexus LFA demand exceeds the limited run of 500 units
As you may know already, the Lexus LFA was introduced back in October, at the Tokyo Motor Show and has been greeted by critical and public acclaim worldwide. Lexus also announced that the vehicle will be produced in limited edition of just 500 units, each priced at $375,000.

Now here is the ”big” problem… according to the manufacturer the interest in purchasing a LFA supercar is already greater than the limited production run of just 500 examples. Now don’t be sad, because Lexus says that you can still register your interest up to mid-March and the end of the Geneva Motor Show – we don’t exactly understand why since the demand is higher than the number of cars!

Not too surprising given the low production numbers originally stated.

I don't see what people see in that car to put it mildly.

Admiral, that is very true....also, up until now, I thought the Carrera GT had the best sound. Now I'm afraid this will.

they are trying to get as many applications as possible, as they are going to filter the applicants on the basis of 'cool' factor.. so this number might be brought down by a long way - so they get to choose cooler people easier with a bigger list !

I doubt there are more then 500 people willing to pay 350,000 per car. Reason being Ferrari sold only 349 F-50's with a market interest of 350 and they were around 480,000 a peace and were originally leased to customers in the same way. since it is a Lexus, it can't be bought straight out I think that is a fair assesment of potential customers.

wait, you expect the lexus to be reliable? Even though they have never made a sports car ever before, let alone a $375,000 sports car? lol you are deluding yourself into thinking they will use regular tested and proven lexus designs in building it.

Ferrari's have a solid reliability reputation that is tainted from many other recalcitrant Alpha Romeo, Maserati and Lancia nightmares from the past that put all "Italian" cars into one category. PROPERLY MAINTAINED FERRARI'S are very reliable and are all beefed up for the track especially since the 360 Modena came out in 1999.

I keep read about the 375K price, but you can't buy one in the U.S.(lease only I believe) and the Euro price I keep coming up with is 375 Euros.

The demand may drop upon how many people Toyota deems cool enough to own one.

Now Toyota's strategy of selecting the 500 buyers makes sense as the demand is greater than supply.

an interest list is NOT DEMAND. not a single person has paid for an LFA as far as we know.

Lexus went for a hard figure of 500 simply because they are prototyping a new form of manufacturing using only carbon fiber(something that is only done for one off racing cars). In essence even with the price being so high they're loosing close to 150k a car.
Look to see a subsequent model in the Lexus line up that will take some of this engineering investment to make a new sports car in the high 80's

SHOWTIME...You show J Leno's gettin one? Remember you have to apply first, then they'll let you know if you qualify. Or Lexus may have a list of the people most likely to meet the challenge, check it out: 1) Jay Leno 2) Scott Pruett 3) 8th Dan Japanese Samuari(Mr. Akio Toyoda) 4) J. Trulli(Toyotas F1 driver) 5) Ralph Schumaker(former Toyota F1 driver) 6) Joe_Limon(Toy/Lex hater)

LFA already sold out in Japan! all 165 units alocated to individuals pre-chosen 3 mths before the release of the Supercar. You can bet Lexus will bring another F masterpiece to shake-up the auto industry once again and nothing or no one can stop them. Sooner or later Toyota & Lexus will bring some wicked contenders to the table...more wicked than the LFA.

I already said (forgive me America) I would have one in my stable if I won the lottery.

I dont care what everyone says about this vehicle. I honestly wish they would shoehorn that motor from the LF-A into the LS (or even G) to give the S-class, 7series, and S8 some competition. You know, just to shake things up a bit. They can even de-tune it for all I care. Im a car person and that motor is a work of art that should see the light of day in other applications. Maybe that will drop the $$$ of the LF-A down. Who knows.

Trust me LACMAN they aint gonna lower the price on the LFA because, that thing is getting more popular by the day! If anything the price and value will go even higher because of demand. The LFA is already sold out in Japan...all 165 that were alocated for Japan. How do you like them apples?

lacman only referred to the ENGINE being offered in other models, to bring the costs down.

this is entirely feasible.

look at how the toyota tundra TRUCK 'borrowed' the lexus v8. this no doubt led to a lot QUICKER general acceptance of the tundra. the one drawback initially, was that the engine was not quite as large as the D3 truck offerings, even tho' it was the MOST ADVANCED truck engine at the time (DOHC, when ford had only a SOHC, and the other guys OHV motors).

offering a 5.7 that was even MORE advanced further upped tundra sales. that is also somewhat of a wonder engine. more power YET more ECONOMY than the 4.7! toyota/lexus has knocked honda off the pedestal as the planet's PREMIER designer/producer of highly powerful AND efficient engines for the mass market.

LOL. an "interest list" is not DEMAND. it's just an interest list. how many of those will translate into purchases is unknown. and those 500+ people probably aren't COOL ENOUGH to be ALLOWED to purchase this lovely car.
