2010 Lexus SC430 Eternal Jewel Edition marks the end of an era
Production of the Lexus SC will end this July after having been able to reap the successes from its long run that began when it arrived in markets in 1991. To mark this event, Lexus has unveiled a special-edition SC430 dubbed “The Eternal Jewel,” which was designed by Toyota’s Calty Design Research Center based in Newport Beach, California.

The Lexus SC has seen only two major revisions, and it’s expected that this will be the last. The release of the Eternal Jewel edition for Japan is a dead giveaway that the end is near.

About time this car had the looks but it never had the go, unlike the japanese sc300 sc400.

Wow....Lexus is doing what old GM used to do. Sell the same junk and add special badges to woo customers!

This Eternal Jewel thing is why Lexus is a joke!

just GM and Lexus Huh?? lol these are not the only companies that have special editions that look different and have different badges thats why its called a special edition, the car looks rediculous but that comment was just as rediculous

Have you owned one? If so, you must be driving a ferrari or similar type car. The Lexus 430SC runs great, no problems and the paint shines like new. No one can believe its a 2002, which I purchased first year of sales. I plan on getting a new one before production ends. Calling it junk is a little extreme. See my comment below.

I think its a nice way to go. Actually, next year should be the last year because it marks the 20th anniversary. This car had its ups and downs (more downs) but it wasnt the most horrible thing out there on the market.

They should call it the Lexus SC for (Snoring Car) Because it basically tried to be a more luxuries, cheaper Mercedes SL but forgot the style and the engine, transmission, suspension, brakes, and got to have it factor!

SC wasnt great to begin with and is long overdue for a replacement. "Special Editions" is a waste and a sad path for them to pursue.

Think of the money Lexus has made off this car since there is practically no Research and Design $$ used in the past for it and its the same boring car over and over.

not much. they only sell a handful per month. keeping up the production line alone must eat up most profit.

Nothing is more eternal than the need of the Euro-only-fanboys to knock Lexus for anything at anytime.

I do hope a new SC (non convertible coupe) is born soon. One, because I think it could be cool if done right. And two, because so many autospies users need an SC to talk crap about and make them feel special.

Greatly stated, I'm glad someone agrees with me. Only thing is, I love that it is a convertible. See my comment below.

the car is a long-running joke. why are you even defending it?

Long running joke = true
Profitable niche = true

At the end of the day, Toyota is a business trying to make a buck. The SC did just that. Made a buck and then some.

Never really liked the SC430 because of its quirky bathtub design. The name "Eternal Jewel" is a joke to me. This sort of stuff might fly in Japan, though, where such names are the norm. Nowhere else can you sell a car called Toppo BJ...

This car was tacky from the beginning.

The sad thing was Lexus had a clean sheet to design a coupe/convertible and this is the result. I remember reading the inspiration was yachts/Nice/the Rivera.

I hope Lexus will take their time designing the next Lexus SC430 coupe and convertible. It would be really nice if they put their Lexus L-Finesse (spelling error) design cube with the Lexus LF-A technology for the next generation Lexus SC430.

Hopefully they will make it fun to drive like the BMW Z4, Audi TT or MB SL35, SL500 or SL600 etc.

I loved the Toyota Soarer version of the SC but hated the current and outgoing generation. Looked like a turtle and a wannabee of the SL. No hard top convertible is done better than the SL.

I have a Lexus 430 SC which I purchased 1st year in 2002. It runs and looks as great as it did when new. I plan on purchasing a new one before production ends. I love this car. It is the best convertible I have ever owned and I've owned a few. As far as the car being fast, unless you are racing on a racetrack, I don't know how much faster you need to go. For the road and freeway, I can be going 85 and it feels like 55. Plus, there are speed limits, so why does anyone need to go any faster? At dead stop, this car will reach 60 MPH in a few seconds. Unless you have owned one, please don't make negative comments.

The Lexus SC 430 was never meant to be a"fun" car. It was meant to be an succeeded at being a extremely luxurious, esxtremely well engineered luxury automobile with sufficient power and comfort to cruise all day. ( 0-60 6.2 sec, ) It pioneered the hardtop convertible and the audiophile sound systems in cars that we are just beginning to see the equal of. Extremely well enginneered, beautifully and hilux interior and reliable. If that is your type of car, there is no better! It never targeted Mercedes SL but rather the mercedes CL, with better materials and confort and a MUCH lower price without sacrificing luxury! A porsche it is not; but when introduced, it was the nicest touring car this side of Bentley or CL but at half the price .
