Toyota continues it's downward fall with 2.3 Million more recalls in the US. With no solution for the problem in sight.

NEW YORK – Toyota said Thursday it is recalling 2.3 million vehicles in the U.S. to fix accelerator pedals that can become stuck, the latest in a string of quality problems that have bedeviled the Japanese automaker.

The recall affects the 2009-2010 RAV4, the 2009-2010 Corolla, the 2009-2010 Matrix, the 2005-2010 Avalon, the 2007-2010 Camry, the 2010 Highlander, the 2007-2010 Tundra and the 2008-2010 Sequoia.

The latest move comes just months after Toyota Motor Corp. recalled 4.2 million vehicles over concerns that accelerator pedals could become lodged under floor mats, causing sudden acceleration. That problem was blamed for several crashes, including an accident involving a Lexus that accelerated to more than 120 mph before crashing in San Diego, killing four people.

But Toyota said Thursday's recall is due to potential problems with the actual gas pedal mechanism, causing the accelerator to become stuck regardless of whether the vehicle contains a floor mat. Toyota said in certain rare cases, the gas pedal mechanism wears down, causing the accelerator to become harder to press, slower to return or, in some cases, stuck.

In a letter to federal safety officials dated Thursday, Toyota said the problem appeared to be related to the potential build-up of condensation on sliding surfaces in the accelerator system that helps drivers push down or release the gas pedal

They are getting killed by singular defective items too. IE: in this case the use of the same part through out the line up. This makes sense when you want to contain costs, however if that one part is defective then recall everything you make. Horrible PR issues will result.

"Firmly apply the brakes"?! But Toyota doesn't offer the system that ensures that the brakes can override the accelerator like some of the German cars. Therefore you have to firmly apply the brake (and not pump it!) and while holding the brake pedal down, shift into neutral.

Scary stuff

Apparently that's what the recall will fix. They'll just change the software when the car comes in to cut the throttle when the brakes are applied.

I new this problem was bigger then originally perceived. I think toyota either knows what the problem is and is trying to distribute the recalls so there is not one massive recall. OR they really don't know what the problem is and they are just band-aiding things as they become relevant.

Backward logic. They'd have been better off with one large recall than the slowly larger recalls they've been having. I've defended them in the past but they should've stood up and fixed this earlier.

This comes as no surprise. The only thing that is actually surprising are the amount of Toyota Sycophants who are still nipple to lip on Toyota’s sagging teats. The Toyota “true believers” are still out there desperately trying to convince the rest of us that there is nothing wrong with their almighty so-called bullet proof car brand.

The sad part about this is the fact that Toyota's are so popular and they sell so well. Given that, I believe thats the reason why this recall thing will never end with them (or at least no time soon).

Im an American car guy but I hate to see this happen to a company that is (or was) doing so well...

*Just my 2cents*

"So Acronis, please list for people, the car maker with zero recalls. Or zero future recalls."Invisible

This news story has nothing to do with who has the most recalls. Google search this never ending issue with Toyota to get up to speed.

Are you a card carrying Toyota Sycophant?

I wish the best for Toyota, although I would rather see our closest neighbors the Americans be the most successful building the highest quality and most reliable vehicles, I also give credit where credit is due.

How many domestic cars(GM/Ford/Chrysler) have had recalls dealing with potentially fatal design flaws. Remember the Pinto, Fiero and the benevolent Explorer? Who just issued their umpteenth recall for potential fire hazards....Ford. ha ha. Toyota will fix the problem and be back underway.

Way too many haters out there spouting opinions rather than facts.
