EXCLUSIVE: First Video Review And Detailed Tour Of The 2011 BMW 335is
As you know we get to test a lot of new rides throughout the year and although most of them are good, only a handful are special.

And this new 2011 BMW 335is would be one of them.

I was so impressed, if it were my money and i wanted a 3-Series with a perfect baalnce of daily driver and occasional track star with a price that's not mind blowing, I would probably buy this over the iconic M3.

This 335is has amazing specs coupled with a lot of bang for the buck.

Just when the competion edges close to the regular 335, BMW lifts the bar a little higher and makes their lives more difficult.

Check out this exclusive video with Agent 001 and the product manager of the new 335is.

And check out the hundreds of amazing photos, in the best on the net photo gallery of the 335is, from the launch event in Portugal here on AutoSpies.

I'd rather the redline raised to 7600 rpm than extra torque. Hell, even GT-R's TT VR3.8 revs to 7600, so why can't a smaller 3.0 one do?

why 7600? Is that some kind of magic number? Why not 8600 or even 13000 like a motorcycle engine? If the engine isn't making more power with extra RPM what's the point?

That can also equate to extra few thousand miles in engine life.

Why? You think BMW is stupid enough to rev 335is to 8400 rpm like M3? Besides tech difficulty, they won't be able to sell any M3 then. There's no magic to that particular number, just as reference from GT-R.

Regarding the importance/implication of higher redline, downtoearth has good explaination on that- check it out:

http://www.autospies.com/news/Is-The-Honeymoon-Over-Lexus-LF-A-Already-Being-Criticized-As-Underpowered-51322/

It's a complex subject to discuss, as we should study the power output chart of that particular engine and run some calc. But generally higher redline allows more wheel torque from staying in lower gear. Hence you had better accelaration, even if peak torque remains the same.

If this car is really to be slotted between standard 335 and M3, its spring/damper rate has better be upped quite a bit.

I currently drive a 09 335i conv, black on red bought in sept and I can tell you first hand BMW nailed this car and the new 335is looks stunning. But I'll wait until the complete new 335i comes out in 2012-13 before I upgrade. I'm loving my current ride to much to upgrade just yet. To tell you the truth I'v always been a Benz kinda guy but believe me the 335i is a real work of art they just smiply got it right.

Looks like a great package that avoids the low M3 gas mileage. Hope you can aso get the M3 extended leather and better sound package.

First of all, it was funny to see 001's reflection in the car to find out he's an older guy. Love the white scruff there 001. And secondly, for this to be their premium coupe, why in the world is their interior so lacking in the lust department, especially the radio/AC control area? This is why people rave about audi's. Because they spend their time with the car on the inside 90% of the time. Not outside gawking at an "is" badge.
To be fair, I love the exterior of this car. Beautifully sculpted and I've been waiting for the addition of the nice LED's up front and back. Well done on the exterior

I've never seen LEDs react like that on camera. Both the headlight and taillight LEDs must be really bright. And hehe, I'm a foglight type of person too.

The black chrome looks great, but on camera, it the grilles looked a little more like shiny plastic. I'm sure it'll be a different story in person. One thing I'm still getting used to is the texture of the aluminum trim on the dashboard. It looks...plasticy, and I thought BMW was imitating carbon fiber. Gotta feel that thing in person, I guess.

Finally, if I were to get the car, I might cut open that slit above the rear diffusers and place a real mesh grille. Plain aesthetics without function isn't my thing, especially on something stock with a large pricetag.

Now, what method do they use to store those extra ponies for boost?

I didn't understand about the foglights - the vert will have them and the coupe won't...because the it needs more cooling?

anyway, nice package!! (that's what she said)

I asked a BMW rep about that at my local dealer. They said because the coupe is more likely to get driven hard all day on a track they went all out with the cooling on it. Since the convertibles are less likely see the same abuse they didn't deem it necessary to drop the fogs, though they still get the rest of the added cooling features.

I thought about this as well...but makes sense now from what JRob said.

As a current owner of the e46 w/ the "Performance Pkg" option...I would def consider the 335is...however I love th e46 so much I can't imagine ever wanting to get rid of it. 001 was right when he commented about the Alcantara steering wheel...I love the way this wheel feels in my hand when I drive...its almost borderline perversion LOL! It may not be an M3 but when all is considered it is the best value for performance and practicality.

BMW only sells a tick over 200,000 cars a year in the USA...why in God's name is every other freaking article about BMW's on this site? Clearly the other 10 million cars here are sold to people who like other cars better!
