Would You Buy One? Toyota Say's It Will Continue To Sell Cars With Defective Gas Pedals

Toyota says it's still selling cars involved in Thursday's recall of 2.3 million vehicles with throttles that could stick open.

Toyota's  U.S. safety spokesman John Hanson said Friday that new vehicles with the potentially faulty accelerator pedal assemblies should be risk-free for awhile because the problem is caused by wear.

"It is something that happens over the use of the vehicle. Out of the box, the new vehicle works perfectly fine," he says.

The suspect pedal assemblies from CTS Automotive Products, based at Elkhart, Ind.,  appear to have worn prematurely, he says. Over time, the action of the vehicle's throttle pedal begins to feel rough, then the pedal fails to return quickly when the driver takes his or her foot off the pedal. "Worst case, it sticks open," he says.

Well, at least it finally brings some excitement out of a toyota.
Knowing that your car may go wild at any moment can be a thrill for some.

Toyota should manufacture this item themselves, out sourcing it one of the largest problems here.

Seriously they should not be allowed to do this...typical corporate crap...ignore...put off...maybe they just won't bring her in to fix it!

In their defense, they don't have a fix yet and it occurs over time. So as long as they can repair it before a predetermined time the risk is minimal.

But it would seem that if it was a significant risk the Feds would order a stop to all deliveries.

It is hard to troubleshoot an issue when you do not have an error code or any way of finding the issue. this happens in the software industry all the time. I am sure that this in not the first occurrence of this kind of issue in the auto industry.

I can't believe this all because of some floor mats. This is one of thoughs things where your drivers ed. instructor said, "and remember to make sure your floor mat is not jamming any of your pedals." Right? It's kinda like adjusting your mirrors and seat before putting the gear selector in drive. Duh!

Yeah problem with this article is that the person that wrote it has somehow convinced himself he will derail as many would be and loyal Toyota buyers. Of course what is not realized here is just how powerful and loyal Toyota buyers are. Sure those who detest the Toyota brand are somewhat under dogs and the rest are Euro lovers, which there's nothing wrong with that picture. However, what is seriously overlooked is the human factor side of the equation. Typically if humans detect negativity or biasness against something or someone they are loyal to them to every action there is a reaction. Does'nt matter if the person or thing in question integrity is compromised, it's human psychology. As long as Toyota admits where the problem originates and has a solution, it's overall loyal customer base is unaffected. Thus it's potential buyers are impressed by it's overwhelming willingness to respond quickly with a solution and fix. Trust me Agent009 and the other infamous naysayers, you'll be dead and gone before you even put a scratch on the surface of Toyotas LCB. Based on my past ownership of Toyota and Lexus cars/trucks, yes I would buy one in a heartbeat!............

This would explain why I still love Toyota....Still a good product in my eye...it could happen to anyone. Maybe Nissan and GM should give back the Hybrid technology Toyota lent them.....lol

Why dont they install a clutch for a manual override? With a 0-60 in 10sec how is the "defective gas pedal" over whelming?

enforcement....... I hope that you are a more intelligent person than what you are displaying I did in fact sell my car once I first heard of the recall. Unlike you I was concerned about my safety. Not only did I sell my Corolla my coworker at work traded in her Camry for a Sonata about 3 weeks after I sold my car. People Trade and sale cars daily. At the time I bought my car 1.5 years ago hoping for just a safe reliable car and currently it is not.

the POTENTIAL (and not realized until years of wear) problems have been identified and will be addressed.

would you DUMP a girl friend if she develops an innocuous pimple? maybe out of paranoid fear it IS indicative of a future cancer?

that is EXACTLY the gist of your "logic!"

upwards, no loyal owner of any brand would just up and sell their car or truck and at what first recall are you reffering to? Yeah I got it! How bout recalling that big fat lie you just told! Agent63 that last remark is so sarcastic I'm seriously laughing!!!

nice job toyota. shows how much they care about their customers.

so what you're saying is that it's perfectly NORMAL for a gas pedal to wear out and then cause the car to accelerate out of control?

most people when they feel their gas pedal sticking for the first time in their life have a first reaction to try and free it by hitting it.

This is very Sad that Toyota is Not putting their customer safety at the top of list. And they wonder why they're losing Credit consumer and auto ethuasit (spelling error).

I'm am a Hardcore Lexus fan but now considering getting a use G37 coupe or a use G35 coupe. Or maybe even a BMW 335i coupe for change.

Lexus I hope you're reading my post. You either paid now fix the problem or you will pay later like the Big 3 or now Big 2. I am losing respect for Toyota/Lexus and this coming from one thier loyal customer.

Wow. So it turns out it wasnt the floor mats to begin with. Im starting to assume Toyota's engineers were smart enough to blame this on the floor mats at first so it wouldnt cause a panic.

On a side note: Its sad the way people are. I still like Toyota's and everything because everything man-made can fail but I can put this on my life: If this was happening @ GM, Ford, or Chrysler we wouldnt hear the end of it. It would be far a bigger deal than what is being made out of the Toyota situation.

Latest news now is that Toyota has temporarily halted sales on eight of its sixteen models due to issues the company claims is linked to Sudden Unintended Vehicle Acceleration which I am now calling SUVA.

To all you Toyota Sycophants and YES that includes you badgewhore, you shameless twit, your almighty Toyota is halting sales not because people don't know how to drive or stop runaway cars but because Toyota knows that their cars are defective and recognizes that there is a serious PROBLEM!

Get it now Rover?

looks like the backlash to continuing to sell faulty cars has whipped some sense into toyota! as of today, they are halting sales of all camrys, corollas and over 57% of the toyota lineup.

now if toyota had used ONLY high quality JAPANESE MADE parts, this would never have been a problem.

toyota tries to be a good corporate citizen and buy locally made american parts. and this is the thanks they get.
