Infiniti Considers Launching Front Wheel Drive Models- Smart? Or Disastrous Idea?
Front-wheel drive cars, no matter how well-engineered, are always a compromise when it comes to being fast. They do enjoy some advantages in terms of packaging and efficiency, but sending power through the wheels doing the steering has obvious shortcomings.

Despite the drawbacks, Infiniti believes there is a market for front-wheel drive luxury vehicles and is considering launching several models based on a platform where the front wheels do the driving.

Believes there is market for front-wheel drive premium models...hmm. Where have they been lately?

There are plenty of people out there driving rear-wheel drive cars with no business doing so. Therefore, yes, there is a viable market for such a car. (Instead of sending that 16 year old girl and her daddy's bank account over to Acura for a TSX why not show her the....um..."Infiniti F20" ...the "F" stands for FWD.

FWD and good winter tires is a good alternative to AWD for those in the snowbelt (disclamier: if you have AWD you should still suit up with good winter tires for more stopping power)

I am glad you mention you should still get snow tires with AWD.

I disagree, RWD, even on dry pavement, can be harder to control (oversteer) in the event that a quick reaction/correction is made (poorly) by the driver. Wouldnt you agree that while RWD provides more control it only does so if you are a skilled enough driver to handle it?

Go to hell! No room for FWD. You go FWD you might as well add a front beak and join Acura.

And Lexus. And Audi. And Volvo. And Saab. And Lincoln. And Cadillac. The buyers of these dressed-up versions of pedestrian brands are simply not sophisticated enough to know the difference. It is a brilliant business decision. Bravo Infiniti!

not the enthusiasts' choice, but probably smart marketing. they'll need lighter cars with CAFE looming. perhaps an fwd platform shared with Nissan, but equipped with AWD standard for Infiniti models. Looking at the business that Acura does with TLs and Lexus with the ES, I can see how they want in on that.

Good point, but they tried that with the I30 and I35...I'm assuming they abondoned it not for low sales but for image and to make room for the M.

Yeh with the cheap Nissan interior, will fail just like the I35,I guess their pursuit of being BMW is not going so well so they think they can get a piece of Acura's market share, not with those tacky weak interiors.

Honestly speaking where's Acura's share? What Infiniti really wants is Lexus ES's.

But overall I think this news is just R U M O R.

Acura's market what?!

Well if they have to, they better not just rebadge a Nissan and add leather and wood to the interior like another company ;)
