Lamborghini will shift its focus on weight loss rather than power
Instead of working on increasing its horsepower, Lamborghini will now be targeting performance gains by using lighter materials to reduce vehicle weight. Its drivetrain specialists have said the company will move away from the focus on increasing engine thrust.

CEO Stephan Winkelmann said that they have reached a point where acceleration equals consumption. And when there’s more consumption, it only means that there’s increased CO2 emissions. To avoid future government regulations, Lamborghini will be spending more on r&d that seeks to drop the weight of the cars.

Shift its focus "to" weight loss rather than power.

hopefully this means that the murc replacement will be lighter and just as powerful, not lighter and less powerful.

Even if its lighter and less powerful it can be faster or just as fast as the current car.Gearing has a big role. Its all about pounds per horsepower. If the Murc could shed 300-400 pounds it could use an engine with 150 less hp and still keep the same performance. It doesnt get much faster than these cars anyway so focusing on lighter vehicles with better feel, overall performance and fuel consumption is a smart move. The Evo X is a good example. Its acceleration is about the same (some reviews actually found it to be slower) as the last car,but handling, fuel consumption, interior, room etc make it a better car.Its a given that lighter cars handle and brake better so at least that will be something we can 100% look foward to.

Lets look at that... the standard LP670-4 SV
670hp & 3450lbs...
vs
520hp & 3050lbs...

Those numbers are scarily comparable to a z06 which weighs 3175lbs with 505hp. I think that it would need a substantially larger weight loss program in order to compensate for 150hp and keep the same performance... maybe 600-700lbs?

It's about time other companies followed suit.

One thing is for sure. The sound will still leave you in shock and awe.
