GM Aims Incentives at Toyota Owners on Safety Concern

Jan. 27 (Bloomberg) -- General Motors Co. is starting a campaign today aimed at selling GM models to owners of 2.3 million Toyota Motor Corp. vehicles that are subject to a recall because accelerator pedals may stick.

The program, which runs until the end of February, follows GM dealers receiving “thousands of calls” from Toyota customers who were concerned or wanted help buying a GM model, Steve Hill, general manager of retail activities for the Detroit-based automaker, said in an interview. The program is available on most Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac and GMC models.

Government-owned GM at the ready to capitalize after the very same government orders Toyota to stop selling its most popular cars... coincidence?

This panic over the Toyota recall reminds me of the scene in the movie "Crazy People", in which an ad exec, who has committed himself to an insane asylum, comes up with the slogan "Take Metamucil. If you don't you'll get cancer and die." Shortly after the ad airs, people are lined up 30 deep, and a store owner on a bull-horn is saying "We're all out of Metamucil. A truck will be arriving tomorrow."

And so, with the media hype and the lack of critical thinking skills in the populace, the very same Toyotas that were perfectly safe last year, and a joy to own, are now death-traps.

I'd still have a Toyota with its accelerator prone to being stuck by a floor mat than anything GM makes. Just my .02 cents.

ROFL at Barry...I'm trying so hard to understand "why" you hate a company that's come to America, and invested BILLIONS for the American people. Community investments, schools to educate, etc, etc, not to mention JOBS created by this. Then I spent two seconds researching your profile and it all shows.

The fact you use a picture of a cadillac shows your youth and ignorance. I know socialist, agenda driven fools like you though. history means nothing, unless you've re-written it to suit your needs.

Sad too, how you had to bring up the death of one family to try and further your agenda, but in reality GM and Ford have killed more of their "customers" than any other manufacturer in the woulrd except possibly GE...whom I'm sure is another company you'll crow about, since their agenda is the same as yours.

Don't bother replying...this is the first (and last article) I've read on your web-site. The tone is what's wrong with so called "American" journalists...it's really become Op-Ed (that's "opinionated editorial" for your ignorant referrence) instead of real journalism.

Best regards to you and your web site. It's not worth my time, though.
