BREAKING: Toyota Adds ANOTHER 1.1 Million Cars To Their Earlier Recall, How Much FURTHER Can It Go?
Shockingly, things have become even worse at Toyota Motor Co. Just hitting the net moments ago, more models have been added to the list.

They include: 2008-2010 Highlander, 2009-2010 Corolla, 2009-2010 Venza, 2009-2010 Matrix, 2009-2010 Pontiac Vibe.

If you have one of these vehicles, Spies, be aware of what is going on.

To quote Al Pacino, "...just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in."

CNN reports:

"New York (CNNMoney.com) -- Toyota announced Wednesday night that it is adding another 1.1 million vehicles to an an earlier 4.2 million vehicle recall originally announced in November.

The vehicles are being recalled to fix a problem in which the gas pedal can become caught on the edge of the removable floormat, causing the vehicle to accelerate uncontrollably.

The vehicles now being added to that recall are the 2008-2010 Highlander, 2009-2010 Corolla, 2009-2010 Venza 2009-2010 Matrix, 2009-2010 Pontiac Vibe..."

Another giant leap for Toyota! They managed to half the number of recalls two times in a row!

Is this a recall of different cars IE 1.1 million MORE or just the same cars having 2 things fixed?

does it matter? Having two recalls on the same vehicle in my mind is worse.

Why aren't they taking lexus cars off of the road, too? I see these cars everyday driven by oblivious people who I am sure have no idea how to put their car into neutral when it starts having runaway acceleration. It is dangerous for the rest of us to be on the road with these cars. Toylex, do your duty and get these deathtraps off of the road!!!

I wonder how long they will stay Consumer Reports pet company.

This has been an incredible and stunning happening.

It seems that everyday is ToMoCo's worst day...

Gas pedal errors. The recall and stoppage on Sales practically for their whole fleet. Big hit for Toyota.

Is it a case of the pedal being too low?

The pedals made by American company CTS are part of the recall, but not the pedals made by Japan-based Denso. Hence Lexus is not as affected. Toyota should just use Denso parts and fire CTS. Sorry to say that American parts are not as good as Japanese.

Fire CTS for fulfilling their contract and meeting Toyota's standards? Stop trying to shift the blame.

BS it was the lexus that killed four people in San Diego that brought this design flow by toyota to the forefront!

CTS is a Canadian company. Canada is not, despite what many believe, a part of the US.

Please resume your flame war.

The side saddle fuel tank design installed in over 10 million trucks
- all 1973-87 General Motors full-size pickups and cab-chassis trucks
(pickups without beds) and some 1988-91 dual cab or RV chassis - is the
worst auto crash fire defect in the history of the U.S. Department of
Transportation. Based on data from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System
(formerly known as the Fatal Accident Reporting System), over 1,800 people
were killed in fire crashes involving these trucks from 1973 through 2000.

^Not only how is this relevant to the topic, how is this relevant to the decade we are in now?

I don't believe it is the pedal assembly. If toyota had accelerator cutout electronics like other manufacturers then they would not be in this mess!

I still wonder how many accidents (deaths) have occurred and we have not heard about it because the witness of the unintended acceleration is not around to tell us what happened.

LACMANLACMAN - 1/28/2010 10:24:23 AM

Good point. If a fatal accident is reported and they just claim that "speed was the factor", it could be the recall issue. (if its a Toyota)

...To add to my post, it could work the other way around too. If someone was actually speeding in a Toyota product and the accident was fatal, how would they know if it was the recall issue or not?

Yes it did, and those two companies had a LONG history of working together.

toyota always stood for quality. that's why people bought the cars. it was never about styling or fun-to-drive or performance. it's always been about quality. it's painfully apparent that the quality gap has been closed. american cars have improved enormously and toyota has gone downhill. they seem to have met in the middle. so what's the point in buying a toyota?
