It Just Got Worse! Toyota Recalls Are Expanding To Other Global Markets

Toyota's massive recalls over problem gas pedals in the U.S. are being extended to China and Europe, the latest blow to the world's top automaker as it struggles to salvage its safety reputation.

The announcements Thursday come after the company earlier this week said it was suspending U.S. sales and production of eight models — including the Camry, America's top-selling car — to fix faulty pedals that could stick and cause acceleration without warning.

Rolling recalls by toyota? Basically toyota should be recalling >10 Million cars but they do not want to do that all at once because the PR would devastate the company!

First it was the people driving the cars, then floor mats, then floor design , then pedal design, then pedal assembly, I am sure the next things will be replacing electronics or reprogramming drive by wire electronics.

Toyota does not stand for quality anymore! Ball joints, Engine sludge, transmission problems, camshaft failures, poor paint, rusting frames, now this! When does it end, when will toyota start to produce quality safe cars.

Why isn't toyota pulling all of their re-badged vehicles off of the road?! You will be just as dead when a lexus hits you as when a toyota does. It says a lot about toylex that they are waiting to pull them. Another FAIL for toyota. ALL of the toyota and lexus deathtraps should be taken off of American roads immediately!

Hmmmm... I wonder... is it now an insult if I tell somebody to go buy a toyota? Wouldn't it be comparable to go slit your wrists?

Yesterday evening I was back from a business trip, took a taxi at the airport, it was a brand new Camry.
I buckled up.

Toyota will take some big hits for this situation but they will be able to weather it because this is the first of their problems to really hit the general media. The real downfall will come IF another big quality or design problems crops up. Then the media will turn on them and ruin their reputation, whether deserved or not. Just ask Audi about what happened to them in the 80's.

Agree, this story reminds me so much of what happened to Audi in the eighties.

Toyota is a way stronger company than Audi was back then in North America, they won't go bankrupt, they won't leave the US, not even close, but they'll take a big hit for sure.

Fondamentaly, I don't hate Toyota, I would be sad to see them have any more problems than they have now, but damn, I hate that company only for its fanboys that must all be in severe convulsions right now.

No company in the world does ONLY wonderful things. Sometimes Honda does something well, sometimes its BMW, sometimes its Toyota... And sometimes all of these automakers are doing shit.

Toyota is like all the others, failing sometimes ...

Now I just hope they're going to find a quick fix and this story won't ends by slashing too much jobs.

Agent009 I wonder sometimes if you're gay...You give me the impression of this kind of person that has this relentless pursuing destructive nature. Oh well, there's an old addage that says: better to know the nature of a thing, for you can thereby predict it! Hope you and your infamous naysayers are having a grand old time watching and waiting for ToMoCo to come crashing down because, I'll be here waiting when Toyota hits rock bottom and go flying straight back to the top!

How does having this relentless pursuing destructive nature make someone gay?

Actually I think Joe is right. That sounds like a heterosexual male tendency.

To be fair Huu, Toyota isn't exactly giving them a lot of information to report. I have seen numerous times where Toyota isn't giving a number of incidents because 'they are still investigating'.

Joe_Limon for your information I did not say the person in question was gay and it'a not a putdown to a gay person for we all have something destructive in our natures because we all are not perfect. Somethings just so happen to co-exist with natural/personality types, this stuff is beyond your understanding...you're an infamous haysayer so we dont expect you to understand certain realities. I hope that helps you out a little, now come on let's get back to the subject of this global Toyota meltdown that Agent009 is leading us to believe.....

I never said it was a put down, I merely asking how you linked those two thoughts.

Dont you get it joe, he's saying that HE is gay, and therefore recognizes so-called 'destructive' natures. Why else would he jump to that assumption about 009. Sounds like firsthand knowledge to me.

lol, I am pretty sure he is saying 009 has those qualities, and not that he can sense them.

huu, what's the scoop on the poop? toyota, nhtsa, the suppliers themselves can't narrow down possible root problem as design error, mfg process error, material defect, wear & tear, or human error, etc. yet you seem to already know it's the throttle response. i realise between toyota, nhtsa and the suppliers don't have much experience or smart people to figure out things so tell us wise-one-who-has-the-solution-to-all-problems-in-the-world, what's the real problem and how much are you charging for your consultancy?

To be fair to Huu, people have been making this assumption based on descriptions since the first problems began to surface. I know on several GM boards people immediately though it was a computer error leading to the 'stuck accelerator'. I personally don't know enough about the technology to judge but I would place my money on the computer error.
