Cadillac Plans To Add Wagon, Coupe and Convertible To 2012 ATS
Cadillac is moving forward with the often-teased ATS, a model slated for a 2012 debut and aimed straight at the Infiniti G37, Mercedes C-Class and other German and Japanese competitors in the entry-premium segment.
"We're finalizing the four-door showcar of the ATS first," a well-placed source told Inside Line. "Then we'll follow quickly after with a wagon, a coupe and a convertible."

Coupe, converts I get, wagon? BMW sold less than 900 5er wagons in the U.S. last years. As cool as I think sports wagons are they're just not worth the R&D money to build.

Yeah but how many Cadillac sell outside the U.S.. Europe the big wagon market Cadillac has announce it's pulling out of half of Europe. We American don't buy wagon, I still don't think that Luxury wagons are worth the R&D.

Maybe they are trying to grab the wagon market from VW Passat, and 3 series

The ATS better be executedand marketed perfectly, because they are going to have to work hard to seperate this car and various versions away from the CTS.
On one hand, they will gain some customers, but if the ATS resembles the CTS too much, ppl are just going to say wow, why I am gonna spend 5 - 10k more on the cts.
BMW has doene a great job with seperating the 3 and 5. But they have done a poor job sperating the 1 and 3 series. The lower downt the price scale you go, the more risk your taking.

I agree they will have to start in the high $20,000 to get people intetested.
BMW should have left the 1 alone or at least priced it lower

Yes in the US. I think its really the price point with the One Series. Yes, the starting price is resonable, then start throwing some options in there and your at a mid level 328 sedan. Its quite obvious the 1 series has not been a huge hit, most likley for this reason.

agree
I would be interested in a 1 series if it were cheaper, but when you see that price tag you want more car for the money. I think that BMW could still do it at a profit, and would be interested to see what the numbers boil down to.

Acura wished they had a design this stunning and individual. GM owes no apologies to anyone as the design language is original to GM. Glad to see GM has finally taken a stand to develop a model less expensive than the CTS. This could be the new definition of "entry luxury".

The ATS previewed was edgier looking than that Converj plug-in hybrid shown above. It kinda looked like a scaled down Cadillac Cien that was shown a few years back (well at least the two door ATS preview did). I think ATS will start in the early 30's. If you all havent noticed, the CTS' price has been increasing ever since its debut little by little. By the time the ATS is here, or when the next CTS is, CTS might be late 30's. There wont be a problem with this vehicle stepping on CTS' toes. (IMO)
I do agree with those that say this vehicle cant get here soon enough. I wonder what engine options will look like, especially the "V". Is there room for an 8 cylinder? Then again, they may not go that route since the next M3 and the S4 are downsizing their motors.

Im going to see if my friend can email this shot of a Cadillac designer talking again. I will upload it to my facebook page. Everything but the guy is kinda fuzzy but you can make out enough. I think it may be where that guy from Motortrend got his sketch idea (the green ATS illustration) from. What else could the car have been? It mos def wasnt the Converj.

I'll buy the vert if it is a ragtop.
I'd also get the wagon, if they make it in an AWD version.

It is a pretty ugly concept, however, the CTS's design language would work nice on a smaller model, just like when Volvo shrunk it's S80 design and created the current generation S40, it just looks better on a smaller scale.
