Will the VW GTI change the trend towards Japanese hot hatches?

what people in this market are driving as long as they do not sound 100X louder than they need to be.

Its a matter of opinion. Sedans don't sell for crap in Europe unless its a BMW, MB or Audi, etc. That's why both MB and BMW scrambled to design hatches in their range. Hatchbacks are very useful. I have been able to get a 32"TV in back and still leave the seats up and shut the hatch. Can't do that in a sedan. As far as changing a trend? I can only hope this can inspire more cool hatches for the US. The new Honda Civiv Hatch is hot also, but doubt we'll see it here (its being built in England)


I love the new GTi, hope to try it out and maybe buy one!

Such animosity! over a car? LOL. Bill, I am guessing from your "cheapie" comment that you have not been inside the new GTI. Unless you absolutely hate "krautkars" you will be pleasantly surprised how refined and upscale this car is. Plus, loaded to the gills with amenities this car is still a few thousand cheaper than the base STi. Besides if you have animosity towards the Germans because of WWII shouldn't you be just as venomous towards the Japanese? :)

We are comparing hot hatches, not companies.

The Corolla T-Sport is a painfully bad hot hatch, by the way.
