Ford posts its first profit in four years: $2.7 billion
Things are looking up for Ford Motor Co., which posted a fourth-quarter profit recently and swung to a profit for the year with the help of accounting gains. Ford also forecasted an operating profit for 2010.

Previously, Ford had said that it doesn’t expect to be “solidly profitable” until 2011. But these figures indicate continued progress in CEO Alan Mulally’s recovery efforts to lessen the blow as it sees its weakest US sales in 27 years. Ford has already made history as being the only large US automaker not to reorganize under a U.S. government-supported bankruptcy in 2009.

That is some fancy book balancing your doing Alan. How did a company that almost needed a handout from the government, turn into a company that posted a 4th quarter profit, all in a years time...without changing their vehicle lineup.

Oh thats right you sold most of your company...that's how your turned a profit. Soooooo its not really the same thing as making a profit off of your product design, its more like making a profit off of an estate sale.

Somthing tells me that in 2011 Ford may be doing what GM and Chrysler did last year. Begging for money.

I'm no Ford fan, but what you said isn't accurate... the vehicle lineup has indeed changed a lot this year: all-new taurus, updated Fusion & hybrid, all-new F-150; all three of which are selling very well. also, Sync is class-leading with regard to in-car personal technology integration.

Sloth love Chunk!!

Seriously...where did I say I hated Ford. I hate corrupt business practices and would love to see Ford succeed in the US. However only if they sell us the vehicles they keep giving to the europeans and the rest of the world.

I can't love a company which for the better part of the last 3 decades did nothing but SPIT on us the american consumers. I loved the old 60's mustands and Thunderbirds...but that is not what Ford decided to give us from the 70's on now is it. Honestly do I need to bring forward the whole "live rear axle" debate as to why many people sneer at Ford.

If Ford stars caring about its customers and giving us cars (like the new Taurus) in abundance...well then I'm 100% for them, like I am for GM right now.

But hiding underneath banking ledger 'slight of hand' does not a good company make.Sloth love Chunk!!

@Spectator: Ford's new strategy is to bring us (or everyone) the same model worldwide. Better late than never right? Quit complaining. If you arent a Ford fan, this news shouldnt make or break you.

I'm not an accounting expert, but didn't the Jaguar sale happem the year before last? I know that Ford has done some nifty accounting and mortgaging of their assets to avoid the bailout, but I'm inclined to believe that today's profit is a result of the hard work they've done to drastically improve their products and the consumers' perceptions.
