that is real pricey. In my opinion, you would be better off dropping a couple of grand more and upgrading to the M3 convertible.

Why would I take this over a corvette convertible a porsche boxster S for this price?

Corvette convertible? Absolutely not, unless you are an Italian guy in his 50's who rocks a huge gold chain. The Boxster S, on the other hand, is a great sports roadster.

Ok...so Jeremy Clarkson must be an Italian guy in his 50's who sports a giant gold chain if I'm not mistaken.

Seriously are your sterotypes from the 1980's or somthing. Everyone likes the new corvette.

Because you can't afford the boxster with options that is 75 grand and you can't see yourself driving a plastic Chevy that has doors that tend to not open sometimes.

also if you were looking at a corvette convertible wouldnt you also think the ultra expensive boxster S was priced to high....makes no logical sense.

BMW has really been jumping in price lately. I am not a huge BMW fan but when compared to MB and AUDI it seems that BMW has gotten really proud of their products.

I think what you're seeing is BMW starting to charge more BECAUSE the competitors have been charging more for years, not the other way around. While that isn't always the case (the 3-Series costs more than its competition, for example), it has been true for a long time with the 5-Series compared to the E, the 7-Series compared to the S, and (quite substantially) the Z4 versus the Boxster and SLK, both of which were waaaaaaay more expensive than the Z. In the case of the Z4 zDrive35is it's not more than the competitor vehicles. A Boxster S with PDK has literally an almost identical base price, and anyone who has looked at a Porsche knows they come with nothing standard -- Porsche would charge you for the air in the tires if they could. A MB SLK55 AMG costs $5000 more than either. Sure, if you're going to compare the Z4 to a Corvette it's expensive, but so are the cars the Z4 is competing with. Frankly I don't think the Corvette is what BMW was benchmarking with the Z4, or what Porsche was benchmarking with the Boxster, etc. By that rationale you could get a Mazda 6s Grand Touring with just about all the bells and whistles a Benz E-class, Audi A6, or BMW 5-Series come with, for about half the price. You could get a fully loaded Taurus SHO for the same price as a loaded 328i, C350, or A4, and you'd have options the Germans don't and a much larger car to boot. And yet BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Jaguar, etc. all manage to successfully sell their "overpriced" cars.

Yes you are correct that the Germans compare themselves to themselves. And yes, the person who buys a German car usually dosen't look at american vehicles.

However the person who buys an SLK 55 AMG...let me rephrase that...the hairstylist that buys and SLK 55 AMG is overpaying for his car just as the rest of the people who pay for german cars are doing. I would honsetly like to know what the amenities are that allow you to charge double for what Nissan gives you in a 370Z.

I realize your paying for "German Automotive Genius" however does the average person really think the Japanese don't know how to build nice vehicles with over 60 years of practice.

On a side note, you are missing the "d" on the end of "manage". This is a whole new world economy where everyone is basically for a lack of a better work...broke. So premium manufacturers are feeling the heat. Not really going to make a lot of money off of selling $60k+ cars. No more Tech Gurus or Housing Barons to buy up the lot.

spectator, I think its hard to compare a MB to a Nissan. Sure, performance on paper is similar, but many people look at the name plate. Lets be honest, many people who buys the SLK55 are not looking at the performance. They are looking at the badge and the name of Mercedes.

Which is exactly the point I was trying to make.

FYI, I'm not just looking at performance numbers. Suspension, Transmition, Leather, Amenities and Technology are all things I'm paying attention to as well.

9000 grand price increase for 20 hp? That's 450 bucks PER hp! Oh yea it has 1 less turbo meaning the damn thing is cheaper to make!

you didn't need to know how to read to go to Penn? The only correct thing in your post was the math, except that it's 35hp more, not 20, along with 69lb-ft more torque under overboost. And it includes the M Sport package (bodykit, wheels, trim, etc.) which costs thousands of dollars on the lower models. Also, it's still a twin turbo. Even the regular Z4 sDrive35i is keeping the twin turbo, it's the only "35" model in the BMW lineup that isn't going single turbo for 2011.

compared to a Z4 sDrive35i the "is" includes standard:
M Sport Package $3900
DCT $1525

That's $5425 of the $9000 right there, meaning you're actually paying $3575 for the engine upgrades that amount to 35hp and 69lb-ft. That's $102 per pony, or $52 per lb-ft. Is it cheap? No. Is it much more reasonable than you're trying to make it out to be with your anti-BMW rhetoric? Yes. And, most importantly, is it right in line with the competition? Absolutely.

lol these comments are hilarious clearly you all have never priced any of the cars you are talking about. One an M3 convertible will run to almost 80,000 and with destination is almost 68,000 base, the boxster/boxster s with comparable features is a 70+ grand car they dont even come standard with power seats for gods sake, and if you need a 2 seater sports car without the frills of a luxury car you would be better served in a Z anyway or if economy is your choice the TTS as no one can beat it on epa ratings vs performance. Not to mention this has a twin turbo not a single turbo( yet the above comment states it has one lol car enthusiast??? uh no.

I didnt actually think they would put the whole drawn out name on the outside of the vehicle but it doesnt look as bad as I thought it would.

Also, IMO, that is the best looking BMW interior of all of their vehicles. It doesnt simply look like the rest of BMW's lineup.
