Saab-Spyker too small to survive? Maybe!
Even before an announcement was made on whether General Motors Co. had reached a deal for Spyker Cars NV to acquire Saab, detractors have already come out, one of which is Fiat S.p.A. CEO Sergio Marchionne.

Many inside the auto industry have expressed skepticism about the success that Spyker will experience as new Saab owner. Many doubt that the new company, dubbed Saab Spyker Automobiles, will be able to survive in this climate due to the fact that neither company is profitable and because of Spyker’s size.

Their Saab offerings are going to have to be quite unique--in a desirable way, of course--with relying on styling or badge loyalty too much. Not too many people want to buy a car from a make that has a limited dealer and service network. I'd assume they can't go too much in the direction of unbridled performance either because of corporate average fuel economy standards.

Maybe they can offer only station-wagons, hatchbacks, diesel, and manual transmission and be the ultimate niche player.

As long as they don't buy their gas pedals from Toyota, they'll do just fine..

Well Spyker has a lot of expertize in making super cars. I would not be surprised if they Produce a "very high" performance Saab to compete with an M5. Further they need to resurrect the "Sonnett". Perhaps the show car coupe with the open canopy they showed a couple of yrs ago might do the trick. They need to make some specialty cars with a high profitability ratio. The new 9-5 is a good looking car. The interior needs to have richer materials, however. Maybe a little of that Spyker chrome they are so famous for.
