GM improves its U.S. industry sales forecast for 2010
General Motors Co. anticipates sales of 11.2 million to 11.7 million light vehicles for 2010, a marked improvement over the old forecast of 10.7 million to 11.7 million. Mike DiGiovanni, GM’s executive director of global market and industry analysis, said that the leading economic indicators are “pointing to a robust recovery.”

DiGiovanni added that the company had raised the bottom of the range due to increased confidence in the strengthening economy. GM’s new forecast makes it comparable to Ford Motor Co.’s expectations of US sales of 11.5 million to 12.5 million units.
