Caddy VS Lexus Interior Showdown!

Caddy VS Lexus Interior Showdown!
This weekend is a local Auto Show so I went out and took a ton of pictures. While there I noticed that GM luxury division of Cadillac/Buick is really upping their game! I took some interior pictures of both the Lexus model and their GM competitor. Here they are for your comparison.

What say you spies? Does Lexus have to play catch up again? Or is GM still falling behind?

Thanks JOE,

To my eye there is only one standout and that is the Lexus GX interior.

In second place I put the Buick tied with the Lexus RX.

SRX 3rd, ES 4th and then Escalade.

You are correct, it is the LX...Got me! LOLOL!!!!!

@001: I never thought the day would come where I would question you but here it is (the last day of the first month of the new decade): Where did you see a SRX in the pics? I only saw a CTS and an Escalade interior...

LOL Even the Remote Touch's cover was stolen or intentionally removed. It's usually just shift knobs.

Anyways, there are some interior surfaces of some Lexus vehicles that are just begging to be covered in leather. I wouldn't mind paying a little extra for even a lower grade, tougher leather to cover the dash rather than the amazing semi-aniline leather. But boy, that horn cover on the RX is just begging to be covered in leather.

Also, I hate the "in-your-face" appearance of those dormant buttons in the Lexus vehicles. Besides that, you have a great photo gallery. I love how most supercars these days have an interior full of exotic material in addition to leather. Hopefully, that Caddy interior will push Lexus to at least add faux double-stitching to its RX's dash.

LuxuryFanLuxuryFan - 1/30/2010 7:43:08 PM

'Faux' should not be a Lexus cabin design strategy. Every material and execution should be authentic. I don't like the spray painted plastic masquerading as brushed metal. The HS's cabin should have been designed to Lexus' standards, not Toyota's. Even after driving the RX, I'm still not quite sure what Lexus' intentions were.

Buick's design would have been better if it weren't using synthetics to represent wood paneling. The cabin is still more interesting than the ES 350, though.

The Cadillac interior is a bit ostentatious, especially in that center stack. The display screen area and the area around the curving storage bin would have been a bit more appealing if there were more authentic leather surfaces. I prefer the LX 570.

To me the SRX interior was mind blowing. I love the continuing lines, and the pop up display. My only negatives with it is that navigating the menus wasn't super intuitive... I'm sure given enough time I could navigate it blindfolded though. The escalade was about 80% there. The large beautiful wooden center console was amazing! The steering wheel also had the same woodwork around the outside which is a nice classy touch. But when you get down to the buttons, they are rather bland, and I would much have preferred that large silver piece to be aluminum.

The RX still isn't my flavour, the orange wood has very little detail to it, and the awkward swoosh kills what potential this interior had.

The GX interior is far from dull, however, with this exact model pricing in just over $102,000 CAD it would have been very nice to see more wood and far less plastic.

I also like most/all Caddy interiors as of late, but "mind blowing" might be pushing it.

It's hard to find fault with any of the interiors pictured above, but the RX's center stack is presented in a somewhat-weird fashion.

The RX's 'swoosh' and the gear shift sections would have been better if they were metal surrounded by leather stitching and wood. Looks like Lexus designers need to spend more time in five star hotels and consulting with Nordstrom employees again.

Actuall the dash is great once you drive the RX for awhile.

I thought maybe I wouldn't like it and the more conventional SRX would be better, but now I am very happy with the Lexus RX dash design.

I have a 2010 Lexus RX350. I leased it at Tustin Lexus here in Orange County, Ca. Right across the street at the Tustin Auto Center is Tustin Cadillac.

I test drove the RX and SRX 5 times each and the leather in the Lexus was one of the deciding factors for leasing it.

The Caddy has just as much leather, but it's simply not as nice.

I just bought a new briefcase. I got a Bosca Old Leather Collection Partners Brief in cognac leather. The bag list for $575.00. I also checked out a Tony Perotti Tuscano - Partners Briefcase that lists for $499.00. I had both bags at my house and the Bosca bag won hands down for construction, look and small.

The Lexus is like the Bosca bag.

The Caddy is like a cheaper bag than the Tony Perotti.

and why not 5 times? when you're dropping over $35k on a vehicle, it's not like making a choice between a baked potato or fries. or even bet'n a VW and a KIA ;).

it's actually a COMPLIMENT to caddy that he put that much time into making a final decision. most would not even have gone back to the caddy store after just the 1st oe 2nd drive in the lexus.

I'm really not feeling the HS's pedestrian interior, mainly because of that severely angled center stack. I know it's designed so that the driver can use the 'mouse' at a comfortable position, but that design element is rather unconventional. Hopefully the second generation will bring about a cabin that is a cross between the great interiors of the LF-ch and the LF-A.

The LX570 interior is a joke. The typical silver Lexus plastic is everywhere (which everyone assumes is "high quality" compared to matte black plastic), the design is simply grotesque and the large number of buttons everywhere drive you crazy. I'm sorry, but the LX570 interior is absolutely nothing special to me. A good interior? Yes. Unparalleled? Ha Ha Ha *sarcastic laugh*.

LuxuryFanLuxuryFan - 1/31/2010 5:18:40 PM

The LX's cabin design doesn't do a good job of conveying 'rugged luxury' withe the material palette being currently used. At its price point, the entire interior should be swathed in authentic wood paneling and leather surfaces.

XYZZXYZZ - 2/2/2010 7:19:33 AM

yeah, you can criticize the LX570 all you want. but the fact that it actually OUTSELLS its lesser cousin the toyota landcruiser proves that lexus KNOWS what it's doing.

the LC is the MOST EXPENSIVE toyota you can buy outside of japan (where you can actually get v8 and v12 TOYOTAs). yet the even pricier LX is seen by many to provide a yet better value. with ALL the go-anywhere rep of the LC, but with a smoother ride and more lux.

typical of your pinched mentality to think people buying the MOST HIGHLY REGARDED "go ANYWHERE and come back alive" vehicle in the world, along with it's upscale cousin, actually give a hsit about interior trimmings, good OR bad.

rich people in most 3rd world countries see the LC (and LX if offered) as THE vehicle of choice.

even the UN, which must operate in many places with marginal or NO roads, has a preference for 'Cruisers and even plain toyota trucks.

the new buick lacrosse interior is great, i rented a few of them, it looks even better and is extremely comfortable in real life, though the faux wood is dissapointing, you should at least have the option of real wood... I have also driven CTS, I really like that interior as well...
My everday driver is a Lexus though, so I've been making this comparison in my own mind to measure where GM is today...
GM needs to come up with a more compact shifter assembly. The floor shifters in the CTS and La Crosse have a long fore-aft travel, and take up a lot of space in the center. If they had a more compact gated shifter design - like Lexus does, they would have more usable storage space in the cabin.

Cadillac interiors flow are well connected and seem to be perfectly placed. Lexus looks like a ton of ideas that were putin place without anyone having a meeting. Steering wheel is horrible, Buttons are placed everywhere, that cheap grey plastic look. I am sure Lexus makes a good product but I will never own one because their interiors are very low grade and always have been
