Jeremy Clarkson Calls New Porsche 911 Turbo A Poseur Hitler Mobile? What's Up With That?
"So if you drive a 911 Turbo convertible, everyone will laugh at you and say that you are a poseur and that you are having a midlife crisis. The time will therefore come when you pray for snowfalls to bury the embarrassment that you have brought upon yourself.

Weeks ago, when the Turbo arrived, I began to enjoy it. I thought it might be the first arse-engined Hitler-mobile that I might consider buying. But then, after a mile, the snow came, and despite the four-wheel-drive system, that was that."

The Spies want to know which car you drove?

0-62 in 3.7 seconds, virtually no better combo of on track capability and everyday driver with economy car gas mileage driven conservatively.

Jer, has your fame gone to your head?

The Turbo is one of the best cars we've ever driven. Bar None.

Well... it was originally based on the beetle, which Hitler did have his hand in developing...

I guess he's just just doing what he does best, get people talking. Hey, isn't that kind of like all the celebrity/soft core articles of late are doing?

But Joe, this car is one of the best ever.

How DO you drive this one and come to that conclusion?

There is nothing phony about it...

By going for ratings by saying something nobody else is saying. That's my guess at least.

well its somewhere between a sports car and a regular coupe, and its layout makes it pretty compromised im guessing thats why they are saying its phony. Other than as a sports car its pretty useless, and with so many other cars that can match the 911's performance either for less money, nicer interiors, out perform the 911, and still offer more than a car with an engine it really has lost some of its luster. Im really guessing though no one really took that serious he saids things like that all the time, hes funny

Clarkson is totally complimentary. Its the best driver for the money as he says. But I'm pretty sure the prejudices he refers to are his own. He doesn't seem to like the rear engined layout, it's not "proper". So even though the 911 is an awesome vehicle by any benchmark, he just can't seem to become a "Porsche guy".

Agent001

Sometimes you write like you are a F**kinG IDIOT.

Read very carefully what ATrain wrote below, as it is clear you could not be bothered to read the whole of Mr Clarkson's Article on the 911 Turbo.

The continued Celebration of Stupidity on this site is really starting to get on my nerves.

The celebration of stupidity?? how pedestrian, this coming from an editor that doesnt knot the difference between a Lexus LX and GX please see lexus vs Cadillac article. Not to mention its ok for other people to think differently from you its called having an opinion if you dont like it block everyone from commenting, on your half baked thoughts....an elitist with no cause nor reason...plebian

001, I think you're missing the point made in the article.

IMO, he's saying that there was a time where the convertible version of any car would have 'destroyed' the essential quality of the automobile - and that most people only remember that. However, given superlative engineering, this particular 911 turbo convertible (and the F430 Spider) offers the same performance and feel as its hard top sister.

He goes on to explain that most people do not realize this, hence the 'perceived' ridicule expressed by lesser educated (in the matter) individuals.

I would also argue that he's disappointed that the snow came because it is preventing him from giving the car a thorough test drive to validate his first impression.

If that were true he would not have turned down the chance { More than once } to move to the USA and do a Car Show There.

But an American Car Show would not give him the freedom he currently has to properly voice his opinion of different Vehicles and Manufacturers.

Over there almost all Shows/Journalists are In the Pockets of One Manufacturer or Another and the ones not in their pockets are so afraid of Pissing them off they never Rate any vehicle Poorly.

We will Keep Clarkson, Get Jay Leno to do a show for you guys.

YES! someone got it.Just imagine his voice and sense of humor. Picture him on a dry track, driving the car pretty hard, but nothing too crazy. "This car is just as rigid as the coupe and just as fun to drive." Screen fades out "andd thannnnn theres the snowwwwwww" Clarkson appears in the Porsche drifting in the snow. That is how he talks.

He has figured out that the more ridiculous he sounds, the more attention he gets. And this also has a positive impact on his bank account. He has made a profession and living from sounding insane.
The part that actually covers the 911 Turbo is very small...the rest is a man just blah...blah...blah.

The Boer war and WW-1 started because of England, and Yes Hitler was a nut, but the VW was ahead of its time thanks to Germany's nut, What has England made that is so superior? Nothing! I like Jeromy but he is a pampas ass sometimes.

Okay, truckman. Let's get a few things straight genius boy. There are officially TWO Boer Wars. Which one are you talking about? Disregard that question because the mere fact that you refer to neither means you are only quoting it because "it" is a war that BRITAIN was involved in. And what's the difference between Britain and England? Lots, dipshit. England is a part of the Island that is called Great Britain or simply Britain. The other parts of Britain include Wales and Scotland. Secondly, World War I was caused by Serbian dissidents assassinating Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, which, because of very complicated alliances and treaties, then led GERMANY to declare war on Russia, France, and then invade Belgium. Britain then declared war on Germany to defend its allies. That means Germany, as is the case with WWII, started what was to become WWI.

Like your interpretation of History, your lack of ability to read through complicated verbiage, brings your intelligence into question. This isn't only typical of many of the morons that hover around these pages, but it is also typical of many uninformed people to speak loudly and with the most confidence. Reading IS fundamental. Try it sometime...

An acquaintance of mine grew up in South Africa and his dad was an ambassador and he was an intelligence officer for ? I can't remember, He was a very credible source, I am just not relaying the info the best. History is always told by the conquers, I just heard it from another angle, and I am also part English, so it's not like I am biased. Also I will never profess to know it all, because history is not my specialty, although it is my friends.

Typical arrogant brit...The injustice done by the british empire on China, the middle east, India, US and the rest of its colonies surpasses the Nazi's doings by a good margin...So YOU Clarkson should look at your own country's black history before you try to draw up meaningless associations...Nazi or not 911 is better than anything Britain ever produced..

It is widely known that Clarkson heavily dislike Porsches 911s, so his conclusion on this article doesn't surprise me. Yes, the 911 Turbo may be impressive, but Clarkson will always side with Ferraris instead of Porsches. The Beatles or The Rolling Stones? Porsche or Ferrari? Both great, it's all up to preference.
