Toyota Launching "G" Branded Performance Line

Toyota Launching

Toyota made big news when it displayed several eye-catching cars in its booth at the Tokyo Auto Salon a couple weeks ago. These cars were like nothing Toyota has shown before, slick interpretations of future and existing models, which not only looked sporty but supposedly featured significant performance enhancements. These cars wore the G's logo with the words "Toyota G Sports" written underneath.

G's is a new brand from Toyota that will gradually roll out cars in mid-2010, specializing in complete conversions of Toyota's existing products. In a word, G's will be the company's in-house tuning division, providing Toyota fans sporty cars customized to their own tastes. What will separate G's from other OEM tuner divisions like AMG, BMW's M and even the Lexus F cars is the customization angle as customers will be able to choose their level of tweaks. The changes to the cars will be applied to the exterior, interior and to the mechanical components, most notably the suspension.

Glad to see Toyota is taking an interest in sporty cars again. Now, how long 'til they bring back the Supra...?

It's about time, since they ditched the Celica and it's GTS model, got rid of the XRS Corolla and Matrix (last gen had 180hp VVTL-i 2ZZ engines with 6-speeds). Now they give you 164hp, call it the S and send you on your sour faced way as Civic Si's and SE-R's fly by.

I would have rather they called them what they are, TRD's. But what the hey. Let's see how they bounce back with a Corolla G or Matrix G.

Will these come standard with the gas pedal that sticks?

I think you missed the announcement where they said they have a fix for it. It is lame that you keep bringing the same comment even knowing the facts.

Monster, I was joking and this was the first place I mentioned the recall (so it is NOT the "same comment.")

Writing "Toyota G Sports" on a yaris won't make it sporty.

This does not look like a typical sedan does it Joe?

Exactly, you can't badge camrys or corollas with it either.

or you can... it just won't make them sporty...

Just make sure you never forget to put the "R" in sport, otherwise, it will become a Toyota G SPOT

I like the 'idea' of this moving forward, however, it had best be more robust initiative than the scion limited series releases, otherwise their slogan will have to be:

"Toyota G Sports: All the plastic. None of the power."

G, what will they think of next?

"They should move the IS 350 into Toyota showrooms, so Lexus can focus on conventional luxury."

All the not reversing gas pedals that they have left over after the recall will go into these "G" cars, just for the sake of performance...

Imagine, a car that only wants to move full power forward? Awesome. And a "G" on the back would just be fabulous!
