Consumer Reports Temporarily Banishes 8 Toyotas From Recommended Status
Consumer Reports has temporarily suspended its "recommended" status for eight Toyota vehicle models and one Pontiac model that may have accelerator pedals that can stick and cause unintended acceleration.

We are also advising used-car buyers to avoid purchasing any of the affected vehicles until this issue is resolved.

The affected models include:

2005-2010 Avalon
2007-2010 Camry (excluding the Hybrid, "J" VINs, and some other models)
2009-2010 Corolla  (excluding models with a "J" VIN)
2010 Highlander (excluding the Hybrid model and "J" VINs)
2009-2010 Matrix
2009-2010 RAV4 (excluding models with a "J" VIN)
2007-2010 Tundra
2008-2010 Sequoia
2009-2010 Pontiac Vibe

No wonder I can't get even a lo-ball offer for my Camry! I am afraid to drive it and I can't sell it five bucks!

sux

How can you temporarily banish a vehicle? By that logic you could recommend any horribly problem ridden vehicle as long as they have recalls on all of the issues.

Who cares what CR says about cars? CR are only good at testing appliances. I take that back. Toyotas are appliances so whatever CR says has merit.

Of course once the new gas pedals are installed all 8 of those Toyota's will be back in good standing with Consumer Reports.

ErichHartmann...For your brainless information we're sitting on the sidelines waiting for the sh#%@ to hit the fans. You said it! We're the fans and just happen to be one of the pieces of ----- that will hit one of the fan blades when these temporary set-backs are resolved. Trust me, Toyota will become a very serious defender of loyalty, quality and superior performance after all they've been through over the last few years. Hey what can I say, typically Americans have always accused the Japanese for not purchasing American made parts to co-exist with Asian/European products so there you have it...an American parts supplier was allowed to be trusted to co-exist with a high quality product and wala the darn assembly prematurely wears and starts to stick. I'm not surprised!....

Consumer Reports understands that you can't reason with frenzied masses, so you might as well take advantage of the situation and increase your own sales by jumping on the media bandwagon.

Now I wonder what CR will do over time to these models? If you look back in the middle 90's you see every VW/Audi was tagged for bad ignition coils the subject of a large scale recall. Again the fault of just one supplier. These have long since been replaced, however the ding remains on the reliability rating. Will the gas pedals be the same for the affected Toyota models?

Probably not! CR and toyota are in collusion!
