Bmw vowed to remain the world’s largest premium automaker
Pressures from the global economic downturn may be from all over but BMW AG aims to remain as the world’s largest premium automaker as it forecast its car sales to rise in 2010, according to a statement by CEO Norbert Reithofer.

This year, BMW intends to remain as the world’s leading provider of premium vehicles in 2010. The carmaker also plans to increase sales within the single-digit percentage range to over 1.3 million units. Unit sales at BMW group (including the BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce brands) dropped 10.4% to 1,286,310 in 2009.

what is your point? (the ones in europe are stripped...) and where do you get your information? (not in the U.S.)... BMW is, in fact the world's larget independent maker of luxury cars.

Comparing BMW to Toyota? Now you are just being nasty. Shame, Shame.

Not for too long if they continue doing ugly cars. Just the new 5, X5 or the M3 looks Ok.

ugly cars... so the 3-series coupe is ugly? 3-series conv? X5? 7-series? New 5-series ? .... since those are the bread and butter of the BMW lineup and account for 95% of their sales, then kind of confused as to what is so ugly. X6 that depends on u, the 550gt is mixed reviews but both those cars account for only 5% of the sales for BMW.

BMW will likely make good on their claim of holding on to the No.1 spot. As much as I don't care for their current styling (i.e., today's BMWs are not for me), my research tells me they are a very well run company, staying profitable, year after year, with rare exceptions. Even in recessions. In spite of the Bangle Era of "Flame Surface Styling Language" (which never caught on, and is slowly fading away), BMW has remained consistently profitable, and continues to out-number the competition.

As long as BMW's continue to out-perform the competition, they cant and will not be touched (as far as sales go). That 6series looks like Shrek on wheels but one would still make it in my garage (in M form) if I had the $$$ to afford one.

I truly hope that Audi becomes Number One, even if only for a short while. It will prove, arguably, that Audi's cars are in the same league as (or better than) BMW and Mercedes. But the real brilliance, should this happen, is that BMW would pull all the stops out to blow prospective buyers away, and to get the Number One spot back. And thi, too, would be good, because it would make BMW, already a great car, even better.
