SHOW AND TELL: Tell Us About The Worst Driving Crash You Have Ever Had
If you drive at all, eventually you will crash.

For most of us this has already happened at least once, if not it will happen to you eventually.  That's not saying you are a menace on the road, however unless you are supremely lucky, time and those other idiots out there will eventually track you down.

That crash could be just a small fender bender, or a horrific wipeout that totals your pride and joy.  Either way you may feel luckily that it was just so minor, or grateful to just be alive.

My worst crash by far was on the track competing in a solo event about 20 years ago. On the inside of fast sweeper I dropped a wheel off the tarmac at about 80 mph ripped the tire right off the rim.  Needless to say after my GTI stopped tumbling,  I had a new appreciation for crumple zones and VW's attention to integrated safety cages.  The main thing however was I simply walked away, and and only had to nurse my ego.

We all have those war stories we either want to brag about, or sheepishly get off our chest. So tell us all about the worst crash you have ever had, and did your vehicle either save your life, or even contributed to the crash itself.

Lets hear the best and the worst you have!

204E60- where do you come from? A rural area where no one is on the road? at least in the DFW Area, I constantly am on the defensive avoiding others on cell phones and those swinging at the kids in the back seat.

Everyday is a lesson in defensive driving.

I was rear-ended twice in a 2004 MINI Cooper S by full size SUV's each time. Dumb SUV drivers don't know how to look before they merge or leave enough room in stop and go traffic. Because the MINI is built so well, I was never hurt in either wreck. I have also heard from many other MINI owners that have been in wrecks that they escaped the accident with little to no bodily injury and the other people were'nt always so lucky.

Mine personally was when I found out that the speed limit isn't always safe. About 5 years ago I was going 50kph in a 50kph zone a couple blocks from home, however the conditions were abysmal, a gently curved road mixed in with a foot of snow on either side of the wheel ruts pulled me off the road and caused me to rebound off of a lamp pole.

No shit sherlock, I wasn't trying to get sympathy. I was just stating my own experiences.

I turned a rare ZR1 into a frisbee at over 100mph when I hit a heavy rain suddenly at night and went into a spin which resulted in a little guard rail pinball. No injuries except a huge ego adjustment.

Noon. 4th of July. Route 1. The Beach. Fully restored [with my own hands] 1968 Pontiac LeMans(final piece installed that day).

T-boned by a white Lexus driven by a guy from Jersey...gold chains and all. Car totalled. Ended up hitting a restored Bronco (bad day for classics) before landing in a ditch.

Sister ended up in my lap with a broken collar bone...with the seatbelt fastened. Lexus passenger had a heart attack [lived]. And the fire department ripped what was left of my hood apart attempting to realize that a green leak is radiator fluid...not gas.

Stopped the Parade. Stopped Traffic Northbound. On the 4th. At the beach. Just a little bit of commotion.

Funniest moment in my life however was when the fire chief told one of his men who was trying to open my hood with the worlds biggest crowbar..."Nick turn it around, you've got it backwards". Who dosen't know how to use a crowbar. But the better part was when my buddy who helped me put together the car and saw the accident went up to the hood while "Nick" was mangling it with the crowbar and undid the hood latch. Popped open instantly.

the week that the Pontiac G8 GT debuted in 2007, I rented one from my local rental agency - I was absolutely shocked that they would put a car with a 400 horspower V8 on a lot for people to rent. I had to get my hands on it before they realized how big of a mistake this was... I disabled the traction control, proceeded to powerslide the car around every possible corner in the city, until I tried it on a street that was a bit too narrow, hit a high curb, blew out the front tire and drove headlong into a concrete wall. the car folded up like a paper box, I went partly through the windshield, but wasn't completely ejected... i got a chance to put my credit card's rental insurance coverage to the test. to my surprise, they paid for everything, with no drama.

'81 Fiat X1/9 vs 89 Jeep Cherokee going 100mph with headlights off in the dark.
I turned left from a side road onto a rural 2 lane road at 5AM when out of nowhere some idiot doing 100+ in a cherokee ripped through the front of my Fiat like it wasn't even there. All I saw was a hood over my windshield and I stopped about 5 feet from where I started. Looking out my passenger window, all I saw was brakelights and a cherokee rolling over and over and over and over.
We both walked away without a scratch.
(...because the cops wouldn't let me anywhere near him afterwards. ;) )

I give props to Fiat for a great little car.

Early in October of 2009.
Afternoon; sun still shining bright; in a suburban neighborhood. A pickup parked on the side of the road suddenly made a blind u-turn into my 03 LX 470. Fortunately, only the front, right fascia was messed up, but Longo Lexus took two months to fix it. (It was really sad how I had to remind them that they were about to take away the family SUV during Thanksgiving.)

Late in October 2009, about two weeks after my LX incident.
I was exiting a freeway in my 98 LS 400, and when I got onto the intersection, a middle-aged lady ran the red light and rammed into my car. She blamed the fault on her slippers and cried to the cops, saying that she never got a ticket or had any accidents before. Boy was she annoying... My car took only two weeks to be repaired at a local garage, but even though he used "genuine Lexus parts," the finish was evidently horrible.

My rental car at the time at first was a Toyota Corolla. The Corolla was tiny, cheaply made, and utterly powerless, so I switched to a Chrysler 300. Despite being just as slow, the 300's hefty weight made it an even better freeway cruiser than my LS. The 300 is cheaply made in a different way, so comparing the quality of the Corolla and 300 rentals is like comparing apples and oranges.

I was rear-ended when I was stopped at a light by a man on his cell phone in his Dodge Grand Caravan. I had a 2000 Acura Integra GS 4-door, saw him coming, couldn't move since people were in front of me. He hit me doing 30-40mph, pushed me into the Toyota Tacoma in front of me (the hitch punctured a nice hole through the car and then the car went under the bumper) and the Toyota hit an old Ford LTD wagon. The Acura held together really well, although there was no trunk left, it was flat, and the rear bumper of my car welded to the Caravan. Thankfully I was uninjured except for burns on my wrist from the airbag. I cursed the man out when I got out of the car, the police did too, but I was in VA at the time and no hands free laws, so he didn't get in trouble. Anyway, bad crash, I am lucky, still miss my little Acura!

I have never been in a car accident nor have I ever crashed a car. Wow, now that I think about it, all of my vehicles have been in a accident when I loaned them out:
First car: 91 Cadillac Sedan Deville (sister hit deer or rather deer ran into her)
Second car: 02 Ford Taurus (brother crossing through yellow light and car in oncoming traffic was trying to make left turn also trying to beat yellow light)
Third car: 05 Chrysler 300C (co-worker and friend @ work wanted to take my new car on lunch break and had a minor fender bender with a car backing out a parking space in parking lot of a f*cking Mcdonalds) I still had temp tags on this car! I bought it brand new and it was only a week old! (A true FML.com story)

As for myself, I know Im only turning 27 this year but I hope Im never involved in an accident. Crash tests alone scare the sh*t out of me. I cant even imagine an actual wreck. Im glad all you guys are okay and still here to tell your stories. God bless.

On a side note: Is that a new Camaro in the pic of the wreck on this page? It looks like it from the side mirror. Where is the other half of that car? WTF...

Sorry guys. I just answered my own question. I thought that pic was a muli-vehicle accident but it was just one. Thats crazy. It was a Camaro. How fast do you have to be going to "split" a car in half?!?! I cant believe he walked away from that wreck.

Incredibly lucky.

By the time I was 27 I had already been in 8 Accidents. Only 1 was technically my fault...and it was just a technicality (nothing I could do, crammed in traffic on a rainy day and somone locked up the braked in the middle of an intersection, on a yellow.)

But as motorcyclist say..."There are 2 types of bikers. Those who have layed down their bike and those who are going to lay down their bikes."

1-Dislocated Hip {Rear Passenger}
2-Internal Injuries {Front Passenger}
3-Fractured Skull, Chipped Shin, Broken Chestplate {Me}

Thankfully all injuries were not Life Threatening.

Irritating thing was the stupid woman who caused the crash was totally unscratched.

NYC yellow cab Crown Victoria VS. '07 Mazda CX-7. On the GCP, basically he initiated his own pit maneuver. Yellow cab was slightly ahead of me, when all of a sudden he decided to come in to the left lane around 60+mph, his side rear bumper clipped my right side bumper/fender - it was all fishtailing/pinballing from there for him , but my left side swiped a guard rail. No injuries to anyone. He had a passenger in the car rushing to get to JFK - :-)
