Toyota Recall Consumer Information ORG Site Launches
A site has been setup to deal with Toyota's gas pedal recall. There you can find the most up to date information about the recall, as well as submit your questions and have them answered quickly.  You can also schedule an appointment to bring in your affected Toyota vehicle.

From the site:

"Toyota has pinpointed the issue that could, on rare occasions, cause accelerator pedals in recalled vehicles to stick in a partially open position. The issue involves a friction device in the pedal designed to provide the proper “feel” by adding resistance and making the pedal steady and stable.

The device includes a shoe that rubs against an adjoining surface during normal pedal operation. Due to the materials used, wear and environmental conditions, these surfaces may, over time, begin to stick and release instead of operating smoothly. In some cases, friction could increase to a point that the pedal is slow to return to the idle position or, in rare cases, the pedal sticks, leaving the throttle partially open."

Toyota is fixing the problem.

Anyone remember when General Motors built a pickup truck from 1973 to 1987?

It was called the C/K and it had gas tanks mounted outside the frame rails.

In an accident those gas tanks split like melons.

From 1973 thru 1987 GM sold the death trap pickup truck and 1,800 people burned to death because it.

Not counting those injured in those death trap GM's.

Here's a funny coincidence, the last 4 numbers/letters of my new car's license plate is EL34. Weird, eh?

Why do you keep bringing up the GM pickups? We read your post in the other threads. It has NOTHING to do with this story, are you just trying to continue an argument from another thread?

Toyota will probably survive this recall. Whatever committee/individual did the risk assessment when they sourced that part will not make that mistake again. The part supplier might suffer too. Once we get the image of the possibility of a 6000lb Sequoia running WOT@140+ mph with an elderly driver that does not have the reflexes or awareness to bring the vehicle under control, Toyota will do fine.

Now, another couple major recalls will pose a real long term problem. Stupid comments from dealers=rats leaving a sinking ship. Can they save it?

Cars really makes our life easier. If we have our own car, going to places we like is not a problem as long as the car we own is a good one. Toyota Motors has been busy with some things lately. The automobile maker had a lot of repairs to complete within the recalls, which are nearing completion. The Toyota Motors recalls severely tarnished the reputation of the company. The company has updated the brake system to consist of a failsafe and override, to curb any unintended acceleration within the future. The recalls sparked a community backlash over the self accelerating cars.
