Hyundai Shows Us What Is In Store For The Super Bowl AND Takes A Jab At Mercedes

Hyundai Shows Us What Is In Store For The Super Bowl AND Takes A Jab At Mercedes
Looks like Hyundai is stepping up its game in 2010, big time. After having a monster 2009, it looks like some of that extra cash flow is making its way into the advertising budget. Not sure what we mean, take a look below.

The first advertisement provides a humorous look into the future and features Brett Favre doing what he does best; debating retirement.

The second spot shows the all-new Sonata and how it goes through the paint progress, which is allegedly better than Mercedes-Benz's CLS550. The 2011 Sonata hits dealership this month.

Too bad it looks like an outdated 4 door toyota solara. And I call BS on their paint quality every hyundai up here in the north east gets chipped and rusts within 5 years. Mercedes hold up much better to rust and it will be 7 years on the benz before you see significant rust.

is anyone else a bit offended and disgusted when hyundai uses good names like bmw and mercedes-benz in their advertisements? that's a cheap trick, dragging those companies down into the mud with their own to sell a few more cars to ignorant consumers.

German car paint quality is so so with the exception of Audi/VW in comparison to a lot of Japanese companies...This has little to do with rust but the overall finish and lack of orange peel in my opinion. Hyundai is basically doing that and copying the Japanese. there is a lot more to painting a car today then it was 5 or 10 years ago...the Germand just haven't adjusted.

Very easy they just copying section by section of different brand and their is it a Hiunday or whatever name it is..... Just Mercedes CLS , then the lateral line from BMW, the mirror of Mercedes and I can't see the interior yet.....anyway they usually do the same thing, Jaguar,Audi lol lol is easy. For real talent and design you really have to pay a little more and quality of course.

The new Sonata looks like a bloated and uglified Mercedes CLS. The CLS is a special car in terms of design, stunning, unique and classy. This Sonata looks like a disaster from a styling point of view. It is definitely an excellent car, no doubt, but I place emphasis on design, which is important to me for instance. In my book the new Sonata isn't even on my top 100 list! The predecessor was far classier, if a little boring.

Nonsense, the cls couldnt possibly get any uglier, nothing special, stunning, unique nor classy about it. It's the one that's a disaster, with that retarded front and lopped off rear.

But anyway, I love the indignation that Hyundai DARE mention the 'almighty' mercedes in their ad, in any way other than nuthugging. People, they said the car has better paint quality, no more, no less. What is SO horrifying or unbelievable about that?

They didn't say the car was better in any other way, although they could say the Sonata looks better inside and out than the cls monstrosity, and I would agree.

I do not get why it is considered taking a jab at Merc. Its not really taking a jab. Hyundai is just saying they Benchmarked a Merc, and they are making the paint quality better. Now whether it really is better or not, thats a whole other matter.

Its like saying I'm trying to make my car faster than a Ferrari. Once I make my car faster than a Ferrari, and I say it, it does not make a Ferrari slow, it just makes my car faster...

It clearly says at the end of the TV commercial "Better paint quality than Mercedes CLS550".

Hyundai should have to prove it!

Listen, I'm not taking sides with Hyundai. Its not like I planned on buying a CLS550 and all of a sudden, I change my mind to get a Hyundai. That is not the case.

What it is, is a case of Merc can care less what Hyundai says, because it is totally different leagues. When you are in MB's position, you do not care what Hyundai puts in its ads, because probably only 1% of people would ever cross shop a Merc and a Hyundai, if that. So Merc has nothing to worry about. Hyundai is just trying to give itself credibility by comparing itself to "established luxury" makes (nothing wrong with that). It is like they are setting the standards for themselves.

Funny Brent ad, but how in the hell does Fyundai know their paint is better than a Merc CLS CL550?

I find it quite amusing Hyundai compare their Genesis to a Lexus ES350 and a BMW 5-Series.

Doesn't Hyundai know the 5-Series competes with the Lexus GS, Audi A6 and Merc E-Klasse?

The ES is a front wheel drive car.

Too much Pokemon styling in the Sonata for my taste.

Read the fine print at the end of the ad. It was tested by AMCI and scored as having better paint durability/quality than the Merc.

Just sayin.

I love the critique from all you Hyundai haters. Just answer this one question how come they managed to be one of only three profitable automakers in 2009? Volkswagen and Kia being the other two.

Answer: It's call winning market share. At the end of the day that is all that matters!

I can't believe this racist huu76 is still hanging around this forum bashing every thing Korean here. What is this man's problem with Korea? selling exports below cost??? Is hyundai stupid to sell below cost? and weak enough to get a Korean gov't help? Oh my God~ Huu76... please wake up. This is 21st century. That kind of false cheap trick does not work in this very competive auto market here. And believe me, American consumers are very selective and well informed of choosing what they buy. If your constant baseless argument on Korean thing is really true, then why people are keep buying it? Let me tell you this... Hyundai auto is the one of the highest paid company among blue collar's in Korea. Your love for Japanese, please keep it to yourself. Everybody here already know how you love your country so much. You don't have to show your love for Japan by degrading other country. That's just not gonna work.

well that a waste of marketing money. few--if any--mercedes buyers would even dream of buying a hyundai. realistically, they'll pull buyers from other value-priced japanese marques like the lexus ES.

I don't think they were aiming at Merc buyers with this ad. lol

They want you to "think about" what it means if the paint quality on their Accord/Camry/Fusion/Altima/Mazda6/Malibu-fighter is better than that of a Mercedes luxury car. They're focusing on the small issue (paint quality, here) to magnify and elevate the perceived quality of the whole car.

Sonata is a good car getting even better, but don't compare to Mercedes or Lexus. That just looks so desperate for attention. I still see Hyundai as a value brand. The local dealer adverts really cheapen the brand. There is a big disconnect between the main company and dealers.

FYI--lexus is a value brand too. and hyundai is emulating their strategy. watch out.

It's funny to see South Korea's cheerleaders out in full force. Korean cars are unreliable; that's why they use misleading advertisements. For example, Hyundai doesn't honor its 100,000-mile warranty, and it makes obnoxious comparisons to other luxury brands. One commercial states that its models are the most fuel efficient ones on the road, which is an obvious lie -- i.e. see the Toyota Prius, Honda Civic Hybrid, Honda Insight, or Ford Fushion Hybrid. The car market here is saturated so, unless all manufacturers go bankrupt, Korean makers aren't going to gain that much market share. Give it a rest. By the way, those inane anti-American protests that have sprung up over the years in South Korea don't help the brand images of their companies in the states.
