More BMW M1 Details Emerge, Could THIS Be The BEST Modern M Car?
BMWBlog reports:

As we approach the Geneva Motor Show where a possible unveiling of the new BMW M1 is planned, several rumors around the entry level M continue to pop-up around the web.

Scott27, the popular BMW source, has returned with some new, teasing information on the BMW M1.

Direct quote from the source:

“The M1 will differ from the standard 1er with a more muscular appearance especially at the front which receives a trapezoid grille flanked by two intakes to allow air to cool the six piston brakes. The larger grille at the front of the car also allows air into the High Performance Intercooler. underneath the headlights the M1 follows the typical M look by having enclosed headlights or “eyebags” this helps pronounce the front of the car and providing a more sporting look than the conventional 1er Coupe...."

Interesting....I have read many articles over the last 2 years that the 135i is pretty much the M model and there will be no M1, anyhow - this M1 looks great!! but i am not sure why they decided to continue, a fully equipped 335i will probably be the same price as an M1, and after all you get more of a car.

its not incorrect he is right it just depends on what is priority to you, you could get more for your money depending on priority by getting a well equipped 7 over an M5 and the same with the 1 M if they make one more than likely it will cost more than a 335i by a few thousand. The 135i easily goes into the mid 40s there is no reason why an M variant wouldn't run into the 50s pricing it against the 335is and well above just buying a 335i. The 1 will certainly be faster but again thats an issue of priority.

It would be a sacrilege to use the M1 moniker.
M1 was the first M car, and was the supercar that gives the M badge its credibility.

They should use 135iS or M 135i

Here's an awesome M1 vid : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVkY8oA3RlE

CALL IT AN M2.

THE EVEN NUMBERS SHOULD BE FOR TWO DOOR CARS AND ODD FOR FOUR DOORS.

LOOK AT THE Z4 (2 DOOR), 5 SERIES (4 DOOR), 6 SERIES (2 DOOR), 7 SERIES (4 DOOR), AND 8 SERIES (2 DOOR) FOR CLARIFICATION.

what about the 3 series which is both?

The 3 Series has too much brand value to change it simply to match their prevaling naming convention, but the 1 series has very little respective brand value so it should fall in line. That will create more consistency and accuracy as well as protect the old M1 name for future use. BTW, I would love it if the two door 3 Series were named 428, 435, and M4. The coupes cost more than the sedans so you might as well get an extra "number" out of the deal.

Wow, with that intake, the front looks a little like this:

I completely agree as I am driving a 135 coupe at the moment. I have to disagree with many on here in regards to the 3-series. Since I have a 2008 3-series also, I can say that the 135 is 2x the car my 3-series is. The heft of it feels more solid then with the M package on mine feels tighter and alot more nimble. To me it is the perfect car, and a "M" version only makes it that much more sweet.
