SPIED: Looking Wider AND Longer, Check Out The NEW Pictures Of Porsche's 997 Replacement
Autocar reports:
"Porsche’s new 911 has been spied in winter testing in northern Scandinavia.
The 998 model is set to be launched in summer 2012 and will replace the 997, which itself is just a thorough facelift of the previous 996 model.
The styling will be more evolution than revolution and this heavily disguised model hints at few changes to the iconic 911 shape. Despite the minimal changes to its looks, Porsche sources have previously told Autocar that almost every panel will be new.
The only carry-over parts will be the frameless doors from the cabriolet version. Construction will be a mix of steel and aluminium, and some components will be shared with the smaller Cayman and Boxster to keep costs down..."

It couldn't possibly have anything to do with the fact that the 911 has entered more races tan any other car model in history now could it?

If only other cars have the guts and courage to enter more race than Porsche... Then they can dethrone the 911... Till then, Ends justifies the Means... Porsche has won more races than any other car!

The 911 has had plenty of racing competition over the years. For example, in 2009 Porsche lost the GT2 class at the 24 Hours of Le mans losing to a bunch of mid-engines Ferrari F430s. Porsche also lost and won the GT2 class in the 2009 ALMS series with their rear-engined 997 GT3-RSR again beating the mid-engine Ferraris and coming in Last place.
Seriously... arguing that Porsche has the most wins in racing is stupid, in 2009 1/3rd of the cars on the track were porsches.

The fastest car wins? Then why do Porsches place very evenly thoughout the winning field? By that logic I could say that Porsche is slow because it has the most last place finishes as well.

What's with the Porsche 911 haters? You are either a fan of the 911 look and heritage or you're not, but no amount of whining is going to change its classic shape, ever. If you want a car that is "new looking", go get a Ferrari, MB SL or Lotus, but if you want a car that stays faithful to the appearance that has made it an ICON in the sports car industry for the last 30 years, then you can't go wrong with a 911.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with the 911 shape, considering the 2010 Turbo is made to be a daily driver and yet comes closer to the performance of the new Ferrari Italia than any other sports car costing under $150,000. So, despite its traditional shape, it remains as relevant today in the sports car world as it was 20 years ago.

The shape always has and always will be timeless.
